<p><em>AVE</em>&nbsp;(Access Via Exposure) is dedicated to youth and community by bringing context to life and learning through meaningful experiences. Through the Arts and other forms of alternative education, Jarrel Phillips, Zanzibar Stone Town Capoeira Project founder and manager, focuses on helping youth, especially urban at-risk youth, cultivate their passions and pursuits. Phillips hopes to provide creative avenues for the young to explore and discover those meaningful experiences that will positively impact their lives.</p> <p>To learn more about the ZSTC Project, click&nbsp;<a href="http://www.avesidea.org/2012/05/03/zanzibar-stones-town-capoeira-project/">here</a></p> <div><strong>Jarrel &ldquo;Chumbino&rdquo; Phillips, AVE Founder<br /></strong>Passionate for youth, art, people, and culture, Jarrel Phillips is a Child and Adolescent Development major at San Francisco State University. Phillips has been working with&nbsp;youth since he was just a child himself at the age of 14. Having been born and raised in San Francisco, throughout his years of experience Phillips&rsquo; has worked in almost every neighborhood in San Francisco serving a vast community of youth from a wide-range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. In doing so, he&rsquo;s been a counselor, teacher, coach, mentor and everything you can think of in-between. <p>As head coach of the Pre-k department at Acro Sports, Phillips teaches capoeira, basic tumbling, gymnastics, and works with special needs children. He also teaches capoeira to middle and high school teens at the International Studies Academy. Phillips started learning capoeira in the early &rsquo;90s. Since 2008, he&rsquo;s trained under Mestre Urubu Malandro of capoeira Ijexa and remains dedicated to the art form. He also trains acrobatics with acrobatic trainer, Dominick Wyss.
