Byron Kirk

Nottingham, United Kingdom

My name is Byron Kirk, I was born in 1986 and grew up in the small industrial town of Long Eaton on the outskirts of Derby and Nottingham, England. In 2003 with a strong sense of national pride and escalated political tensions in the Middle East, I decided to join the Household Cavalry Regiment of the British Army.

During my 8 years service, I served as a mounted ceremonial horse guard in central London and in a combat role as part of a 3 man armoured reconnaissance crew, serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

To keep myself sane during this time, I developed an interest in photography and its importance as objective evidence that what we did out there was serving a humanitarian purpose. My camera has helped me understand more about the human spirit and has given me a constructive purpose. It has helped me rest my own doubts.

In 2011 I decided that I had served my time and left to start a bachelors degree in photography at Nottingham Trent University. My 5 year plan is to become a well respected documentarian specializing in people and their own personal battlefields.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or queries you wish me to answer through my contact page.

Thank you.
