Bryan Camacho

Fort Campbell, Kentucky, United States

I used to be an infantryman. In five years I held almost every basic position in an infantry battalion and had 2.5 tours to Iraq. Then, on December 21, 2007, I was paralyzed in an explosion and my life was temporarily put on hold. Last year, I finally completed my rehabilitation and even convinced the Army to remain on Active Duty... they even let me keep my status as infantry. The catch was, they set me behind a desk, unsure of what to do with me. Now I feel I have to start over, and it's far more difficult this time. I used to work at the Soldier and Family Assistance Center on Fort Campbell - I was a liaison to other Wounded Warriors as they transition back the unit/civilian world. Recently, I went back to Garrison - a unit where the focus is establishing training for the deploying brigades. As of now, I retire from the Army next year, which as much as I love the Army, I think a medical retirement will be in my best interest.<br><br> In the mean time, I attempt to write (books, scripts) and sometimes consider myself an "amateur photographer". My father and I are currently finishing a script for a project we intend to start filming next year and hopefully we'll go "full time" with other projects.<br>
