Art historian turned arts accessibility advocate, especially for people living with dementia

I am the founder and director of ARTZ Philadelphia. As a curator and educator at a college museum for many years, I was profoundly affected by watching visitors with dementia – often in its later stages – come alive in the Museum as they looked at and talked about art together with me, with their care partners, and with the college students who worked at the Museum. Art became a vehicle for expression, interaction, creativity and mutual respect. My mother was diagnosed with dementia in 2002.
