I'm an regular guy from a small town in Ireland. I married the love of my life in 2011, and went to visit her hometown in the Philippines in 2012. My experience in the Philippines was one which blew me away - the people were absolutely wonderful - caring, loving, hardworking, educated and thrifty. The abject poverty that a lot of Filipinos live in shocked me. Life is tough enough in the Philippines, but when calamitous disasters come along, then life becomes almost unbearable.
