Mattie Do

Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic

I'm a Lao-American filmmaker living in VTE, director of the country's first horror film.

I returned to Laos in 2010 with my screenwriter husband and layabout whippet to care for my retired father. In 2012, I debuted my first film, "Chanthaly", at the Luang Prabang International Film Festival. The film was Laos' 9th film since the communist revolution in 1975, Laos' first horror film, and the first Lao film to screen at major festivals in America and Europe, including Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX. I am the first, and currently the only, Lao woman to direct a feature film.
