ABOUT JOHN J. WISNIEWSKI

John grew up in Detroit and fell in love with film at an early age, particularly adventure-fantasy films and those filled with spectacle and bigger-than-life characters. By his early teens, he and his friends were seldom found without a standard 8 mm film camera in hand, working hard to create something wonderful that they could project onto a sheet hung in the living room. John wanted nothing more than to become a professional filmmaker.

But the world was a much different place then, and training in professional filmmaking was non-existant in the Rust Belt. To make matters worse, most local folks considered the trade downright disreputable. After a long series of psychological dope-slaps by parents and teachers, John put the camera back in the closet and went on to pursue a "respectable" career in Medicine.

Over a 30-year period, John went from callow pre-med student to practicing physician, then on to Ambulatory Section Chief, then Associate Medical Director, then Director of Continuing Professional Education - all at at Detroit's Henry Ford Health System. Finally, he took the position of Medical Director for Ambulatory Services and Associate Dean of The Medical College of Ohio (now the University of Toledo School of Medicine).

In the course of his career, John created innovative new programs in continuing professional education, healthcare quality improvement and health policy development. These attracted national attention, and soon he became a sought-after speaker and consultant, while still staying active in the clinic, in the classroom and at the bedside. He was fortunate enough to retire early, but far from rich - (that was the trade-off).

The first thing John did after announcing his retirement was buy a consumer-grade video camera and resume making films. After three shorts, two featurettes and two 120-minute amateur features, John decided he was ready for the next level, and enrolled in a one-year training program at a local film school. It was there that he began to take his filmmaking skills to the professional level. He began meeting other members of the local artistic community, developing many great relationships that ultimately led to the creation of Grindley Studios, LLC.

Grindley Studios has produced a series of award-winning shorts and featurettes, and is now gearing up to produce its first feature-length film.
