Help Brianna teach students with special needs in Nicaragua

I am currently a Master's degree student studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of San Diego. I work at Fred Finch Youth Center, a residential facility for Dually Diagnosed Adolescents. I am also a Court Appointed Special Advocate for youth in foster care. In August, I will begin my pre-grad internship at a crisis residential program for adults which offers an alternative to hospitalization for the person who is suffering a psychiatric crisis of such magnitude so as to not be manageable on an outpatient basis. It is designed to be a community-based, homelike environment which specializes in the psychosocial rehabilitation of each individual who comes through the door.

After I graduate in May 2013, my plan is to move to Nicaragua where I can fulfill my post-graduate clinical hours at Los Pipitos and contribute towards making a difference in this population within a community in a developing country. In a small town like San Juan del Sur, there is very little access to resources especially mental health services for individuals with disabilities. My vision is to contribute my knowledge, skills, and experience to develop a program where these individuals can flourish and succeed to the best of their ability!
