<p>I am a Physician by training, but 10 years ago seeing the displacement being caused by the armed conflict in Colombia, my native country, I decided that something had to be done to help these families.</p> <p>I founded Cigarra in the outskirts of Bogot&aacute;, where people were taking refuge, with the desire to give these refugees hope of a new life.&nbsp; The reason for the name on the NGO is taken from the life cycle of the Cicada, or <em>Cigarra</em> in Spanish, which lives most of its life undeground, unseen to all, and then emerges from the ground into the sunlight and completes its cycle of life.&nbsp; Likewise our goal is to enable these people to emerge and fulfill their potential.</p>
