I'm a father, husband, community elder, and poet-activist living and working in Fort Wayne, IN. I co-founded and am artistic director for TRIAAC, the Three Rivers Institute of Afrikan Art & Culture, Inc., and the Three Rivers Jenbé Ensemble, TRIAAC’s Mandé music ensemble for young people.

I write poetry, am a journalist, have studied traditional Afrikan cultures and antiquity, and the history of Afrikan people in America since the 1960s. My passion is opening paths for to self-discovery and assisting people in cutting themselves free from the fetters that inhibit their creative life. I've been inspired to this by the work of my mother, David Walker, Fannie Lou Hamer, Angela Davis, Chief James Hawthorne Bey, Malcolm X, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Famoudou Konate, and Bolokada Conde. I have traveled to Afrika to study drumming and culture and been renewed through my familial contacts there.

My work at TRIAAC aims to inspire self-discovery, self-esteem, and self-efficacy by owning and valuing life experience. I teach identity development using percussion, creative writing, and the collective history of Afrikan people at schools, corrections facilities, and community centers.

The Acoustic SpokenWord Cafe is an inspiration needed in this city of churches and liquor stores.
