Dasha Dotsenko

New York, New York, United States

My name is Dasha and I was born in Ukraine. Since I was a child I always loved and helped animals in need. Since the age of 6, I was taking care of the stray dog, Lana, that lived by our building in Harkov, feeding her, caring for her when she was sick, and finding homes for her puppies. I will be forever thankful to Lana for teaching me the love that a dog has for its owner at such young age. Right now I live in US and I volunteer at a local non kill shelter in New York. In addition I volunteer with a few animal protection agencies and shelters in Ukraine in various cities, helping them with various tasks, such as information search, translation, and fundraising.

I believe that animals play a very important role in our daily life- they help us grow and be better people. In this way opening our heart to animals all over the world can greatly help the evolution of humanity. As Ghandi once said:

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated."

"I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man."
