I was certified as a Lamaze educator in 1980 because I had learned from personal experience how powerfully a woman’s choices in childbirth could affect her and her baby’s physical and emotional health and well-being, and I wanted to share what I knew. I soon found that my students weren’t being given choices, much less the information needed to make them, so I put my major in biology from Brandeis University to work.
