About Popo Fan Born in 1985, Popo Fan is a Chinese queer filmmaker, activist and writer. From 2009 to 2016, he made a documentary trilogy focusing on LGBT families in China and these films made a strong impact on Chinese society. After the authorities took down his film Mama Rainbow from the internet, Fan filed a lawsuit against the government and won the case, which was a landmark event in fighting against state censorship in China.
