She joined â€˜Grupo Animoâ€™ a resident teen theater group that focuses on writing and performing stories that speak directly to challenges facing today's youth. It was during that time that she soon developed a passion for art centered around social issues and later become aware of utilizing art as a catalyst for social change.<o:p></o:p></p> <p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Valen Chavez a native from San Antonio, Texas holds a Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Photography with a minor in Sociology from Texas A&M University-Commerce. <o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Ms. Chavez has a deeply immersed background in community-based theatre, fine arts, community outreach, arts education, professional development, fundraising for non-profits and social cause marketing. She has been highly involved with civic organizations and charities such as LULAC, Amnesty Int. and the American Cancer Society. Her passions include supporting the local arts inspired by social issues, advocating for human rights especially in within the Hispanic Community and promoting the community gardens amidst food deserts. <o:p></o:p></p>
