Doing my part to keep the world Interesting!
Ever since my first backpacking trip to Europe in 1987, I have been fascinated with other people and places. I taught English in Japan in 1992, and have been importing handicrafts from Southeast Asia for many years.

My importing company, The Jade Monkey, brought me into a close relationship with my Balinese friend Wayan Sika, and his wonderful extended family. Since 1999 I have been staying in their home during my annual buying trips to Bali. Their generosity and warmth has changed my life and I will always be deeply grateful for being included in the family.

Special Thanks to:
Dewi, Sika's wife and my dear friend-Hostess and Cook beyond compare!

Aji, my partner on this project-bringing me the latest hip art and music from Jogja and beyond

Astri, Aji's sister, a savvy business woman who is always ready to help me with my crazy ideas ( and my crazy bahasa indonesia) and her adorable 3 year old daughter Langit and husband Awan

Krisna, Sika's oldest daughter, a talented architect with two fun boys, Deta and Made and thier Dad Nyoman

Wayan Kartini, First Lady of the Family compound in Silakarang-keeping us happily filled with coffee and food!

All of Sika's brothers and sisters and the Kids, for all your help in building the Tower in Bali

And to my dear friend Wayan Sika., my Balinese brother. He believed in the Tower project so much he slogged through the rice fields, chopped bamboo and did most of the work in creating the basic structure of the Tower. Sika is a highly respected artist and curator of the Bali Biennale, so to have him join me in the hard labor of producing this piece was a most humbling honor. I'll never forget drinking coconuts together out in the sawah!
