Konrad Aderer

Director, Life or Liberty

<p>Konrad Aderer lives and works in his native New York City as a documentary director/shooter and videojournalist. Through his nonprofit multimedia project Life or Liberty (<a title="Life or Liberty website" href="http://lifeorliberty.org" target="_blank">lifeorliberty.org</a>), Konrad Aderer produces documentaries on immigrant communities resisting detention and deportation.</p> <p>His 2005 Life or Liberty short <a title="Rising Up: The Alams webpage" href="http://www.lifeorliberty.org/rising-alams" target="_blank"><em>Rising Up: The Alams</em></a> screened internationally and in the U.S. at venues including Brooklyn Academy of Music and the New York Museum of Modern Art&rsquo;s Documentary Fortnight.</p> <p>By a twist of fate in August 2005, Konrad and his brothers faced the full onslaught of Hurricane Katrina together in their father's house in Bay St. Louis, MS, an experience he documented in his first personal work, <em><a title="A Corner of Her Eye on Amazon" href="http://www.amazon.com/Corner-Her-Eye-Katrinas-brothers/dp/B001NXBZPC/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1341431448&amp;sr=1-2&amp;keywords=A+Corner+of+Her+Eye" target="_blank">A Corner of Her Eye</a></em>.</p> <p>Support for Konrad&rsquo;s work has included grants from the Fledgling Fund, Center for Asian American Media and New York State Council of the Arts.</p> <p>Konrad holds a BFA in Drama from NYU&rsquo;s Tisch School of the Arts and a Master's degree in Sociology from Brooklyn College.</p>
