Melissa Ludtke won journalism awards as a correspondent at Time, a reporter at Sports Illustrated and editor of Nieman Reports at Harvard University. As the only woman assigned full-time to cover Major League Baseball in the mid-1970s, she pioneered in gaining equal access for female reporters to interview athletes in locker rooms with her federal lawsuit (Ludtke v. Kuhn, 1978). Writing about girls' and women's lives remain the core focus of her work, as in "Touching Home in China."
