Jan & Crispin Elsted established Barbarian Press in England in 1977, & in 1978 moved to Mission. The press has issued 45 books -- translations, classics, bibliography, poetry, & fiction -- and specializes in books featuring, or illustrated with, wood engravings, mostly commissioned from leading engravers all over the world. Crispin designs the books & sets the type; Jan is the printer. Editorial work is shared. They are also writers -- Jan an essayist, and Crispin a poet, essayist, & translator.
