Haile Gerima is an independent Ethiopian filmmaker. Though, best known for his acclaimed 1993 film SANKOFA, he has also written and directed TEZA (2008), ADWA (1999) and HARVEST 3000 YEARS (1976), among many others. A graduate of the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, Gerima has served as Professor of Film at Howard University, since 1975. His companies, Negod Gwad Productions and Mypheduh Films, respectively, focus on promoting independent films by and about the African Diaspora.
