XL DISSENT is the vision of a group of young organizers to respond to one of the most pressing environmental decisions of our time. If approved, the Keystone XL pipeline would increase the economic viability of extraction in Alberta, exacerbate pollution and health risks from refining, and spell game over for the climate. As young people we must respond: our future is on the line. We believe that by orchestrating the largest youth climate civil disobedience in US history we can send a strong message to President Obama: Unlock us from a fossil fuel future. XL Dissent is a weekend event that will include a civil disobedience training and divestment campaign meeting on Saturday, and an action on Sunday.

What We Need

This action will also bring together students from all across the United States to converge on a shared vision of our planet's future. The other cost for us is transportation-- we will be having buses come to DC from Minnesota, Maine, Wisconsin, Vermont, and others! Since this is a student-driven action, we want to be able to offset the cost to make it accessible to anyone who wants to be a part. If we do not reach our entire goal, the fundraised money will simply help to decrease the cost for students to be involved.

The Impact

Generations before have created the infrastructure that has led us to impending climate catastrophe. As young people who will be most impacted, we are standing up to say “enough”, and we need your support to speak truth to power.

We are working with 350.org, Energy Action Coalition, Greenpeace, and Chesapeake Climate Action Network to pull off this event. With their organizing assistance and the 75+ campuses that have already committed to attending, we know this will be a success.
