Thank you to everyone who has pledged - we couldn’t have made it this far without you.
We haven’t raised all we had hoped for, but the truth is, we’ve achieved much more than we imagined was possible and along the way, we’ve been building the very 'crowd' we need to make World Vasectomy Day on 18 October 2013 a fantastic success.
So come on over and visit us - the more funds we continue to raise the more countries we can sign up to participate in the inaugural World Vasectomy Day!
With your help, we aim to raise enough money to make the first ever World Vasectomy Day a hugely successful global event. Our goal is to raise awareness about the environmental impact of rising population on the planet, men’s role in family planning and vasectomy as a solution to prevent unintended pregnancies.
What is World Vasectomy Day?
On October 18, 2013 men all over the world, whose families are complete, will dedicate their vasectomy to Planet Earth in a world-first vasectomy-athon to launch the inaugural World Vasectomy Day (WVD).
1,000 men in 25 countries will take the ultimate snip to show they care about the growing strain that population is placing on the planet’s resources, their families and themselves.

Why World Vasectomy Day?
WVD is a chance for men all over the world to make a very personal choice that has a profoundly public impact on our present and our future. We are asking men who do not want more children to join forces to shoulder the burden of family planning and in so doing, fight for their family, their community, their country and our planet.
WVD will be a world-class knowledge-sharing forum addressing critical science related issues within the context of a highly innovative and ambitious multiplatform public event. But we need YOUR HELP to get there.
What will happen on World Vasectomy Day?
Vasectomies performed: The world’s most prolific vasectomist, Dr Doug Stein will perform vasectomies in front of an audience at the Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus) – Australia’s national science hub – to launch the inaugural World Vasectomy Day.
Streamed live: The event will be the world’s first live-streamed vasectomy-athon. Dr Stein will field questions from both the live Adelaide audience and an international online audience.
Discussion: There will be a gathering of diverse thought leaders including population expert and author of The Population Bomb Professor Paul Ehrlich who will weigh in on the social, political, cultural and ethical issues raised by the event and Dr Stein’s mission to save the planet… one vasectomy at a time.
Multiple locations around the globe: While Dr Stein performs vasectomies live from the RiAus in an unorthodox ‘operating theater’, doctors around the world will also perform vasectomies, connected to the event via Skype and social media platforms.
What we’ve achieved so far
The good news is we’ve already accomplished an enormous amount so far to lay the foundations for making WVD a reality:
We've made a film: Our documentary film about Dr Doug Stein - THE VASECTOMIST is now complete after four years of devotion and will premiere in October as a part of WVD celebrations.
We've got doctors: Vasectomy doctors around the world are signing up for WVD, eager to participate and commit their services to the cause.
We've got speakers: We are rallying some of the smartest people in the world to come together to lead the conversation.
We've got webisodes: We’ve already made 21 webisodes that you can find on the homepage of our website to take you on the journey from where this project began through the experiences and realisations of both Doug and Jonathan, as well as learn a heck of a lot about vasectomies along the way.
We've got many of the logistics figured out: The venue, the partnerships, the date!
We just need some funds to pull it all off...
So here’s where you come in
We urgently need to raise another $50,000 to help us cover the costs of the human and physical resources required to make WVD happen. Your support will help us achieve:
Marketing and publicity including online marketing through social media to build our global audience.
Logistics support on the ground in each participating country.
Design and build of the WVD interactive website for online streaming.
Production and postproduction of another 10 webisodes covering the lead up to and realisation of WVD (shooting and editing).
What you get
Take a look at the right hand column and you’ll find we have all sorts of rewards for our contributors. We want to show our gratitude and appreciation to the community behind this cause by offering you things like DVDs, T-shirts, film screenings including Q & A with Jonathan and Doug, vasectomies (having a vasectomy is a serious decision, please read the fine print*), conversations, film project consultations with Jonathan, and even a short film made to order!
How did this all start?
World Vasectomy Day is the creation of Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Jonathan Stack, who while setting out to tell his own story about getting a vasectomy, met legendary Florida-based urologist Dr Doug Stein and together, ended up making a film about population on the planet – THE VASECTOMIST. But it didn’t stop there. The journey inspired them to create a movement to raise global awareness of: the dangers an ever-increasing population has on the planet’s finite resources; and vasectomy as a viable solution to prevent unintended pregnancies.
Who are we?
Coproduction partners New York-based Gabriel Films founded by Jonathan Stack, and Sydney-based Smith&Nasht founded by Simon Nasht, are companies focused on social issue storytelling. We have come together to create a new conversation about population and consumption, by asking men to take a very personal action to change the world. We believe that: vasectomy should be readily available to all men; it is the best option for men whose families are complete; it is the fair thing to do for our women and the right thing to do for our planet. And by eliminating fears of unintended pregnancies, it can even make your sex life better!
We know that talking about fertility is difficult. The consequence of denial is unacceptable. The good news – although we are the cause behind each challenge we face, we are also the solution.
We are deeply grateful for any support you can offer and value each and every one of your contributions equally; in whatever way you can support us. If you’re interested in what we’re doing and want to help us raise awareness through World Vasectomy Day, there are many ways you can contribute to help us build the community such as:
