The 1 minute synopsis:
The Wolftever Creek Greenway is a beautiful 4+ miles strip that bonds families and neighbors of the Collegedale/Ooltewah area in Tennessee. It offers a lot of interesting features for trail users, including the Imagination Station Playground, a Nature Nook, a dog park and a picnic area. In addition, you'll find artistically shaped benches, old wagon wheels, bicycles and plows made into planters and plenty of bird feeders. It is my dream is to create 3 (three) murals that will continue to unify and inspire our citizens and visitors as well as to contribute in the embellishment of the greenway.
Great News!! On Tue, July 15th the Collegedale's Parks and Recreations Dept. accepted the mural proposal. Here are the next steps:
1. Get approval from TDOT
2. Then the Parks and Recreations Dept will submit a recommendation to the city to approve the project.
We still need your support in spreading the word, the more signatures the more attention this project will receive.
A little bit About me:
My name is Alex Loza and I'm a professional representational artist, portraitist, muralist and adjunct art professor at Lee University. In 2001 I obtained a BFA degree from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL. For the past 15 years I've been commissioned to paint numerous portraits for private art collectors throughout the United States, Canada and Latin America. During my stay in Chicago I've participated along other muralist in several projects around the city. Since 2012 I've been part of Mark Making art facilitator team. That year 20 local professional artists teamed up to mentored and worked along 20 Howard High School students in the 20/20 Vision Mural project located in the Riverfront Pkwy and 19th St. in Chattanooga. In 2013 I was one of the artists that volunteered in the recreation of Historic Engel Stadium outfield walls after the film "42". The Collegedale/Ooltewah area has been home for my family and I since 2010 and I'm counting with your approval and support to create this murals for our neighborhood.---------------------------
The Project Proposal:
FIRST MURAL: VETERANS MURAL
The funds I'm raising is for a mural on this bridge. It measures close to 6'7" x 48' (around 336 feet square). This mural will be located under the Ooltewah-Ringgold Rd bridge that leads the way to Veteran's Park. In our city we love and admire our Vets for this reason I want this mural to be the first one be painted. Do you know a local war hero? Would you like him/her to be part of the mural? Make a donation of $550 and provide me with his/her name and contact information. It will be my honor to portray the brave men and women who served our nation in various wars.
What if the contributions exceeds?
That would be the best news ever!! An additional $6,895 will help us paint a second mural in the bridge near the Imagination Station (photo bellow). The wall measures 7' x 118 feet (around 826 square feet). This mural will depict the everyday outdoor activities seen in our community i.e. families walking, children playing, cyclist, runners, etc.
If the total contribution adds up to $21,725 we will be able to paint all three murals. The third mural will be painted under the bridge that supports the rail road tracks near the beautiful stream. The wall measures 16' x 67' (around 1,072 square feet). This mural will honor our city's history of Native Americans and their culture.
Who are we partnering with?
The Neighborhood: After transferring the mural designs into each wall I'll enjoy having the community to volunteer their time to make this murals possible
Local Artists: I'll also extend the invitation to my local art students, my Lee University art students as well as local professional artists and art organizations to collaborate with the projects.
Local Businesses and Organizations: We are hoping for local businesses and organizations to contribute by donating materials needed for this project.
Collegedale Park and Rec. Dept: This project cannot be possible without the city's approval and support. During the past years Collegedale has invested in the continuous transformation of our neighborhood. The murals will be an addition to what the city has already accomplish.
