Weave the Americas will link creators throughout South, Central, and North America by traveling from Argentina to Canada, collaborating with local artists to create a constellation of murals and a 3D map that keeps us connected.

Creativity provides the opportunity to meet each other with an alert mind, a present heart, an ignited soul, and active hands.*

[Original design drawing]

--The Murals--

The murals are composed of hands that combine one by one to create a vibrant tapestry of collaboration and exchange.

Ieach mural, individual parts in the shape of hands combine to form a geometric pattern, or a {{{tessellation }}}.

A tessellation is a continuous mosaic pattern created by geometric forms that repeat with symmetry, without spaces between the figures.

1. Each community creates a mural composed of hands in the shape of the spiral.

2. Each community decides on 3 main colors to fill the hands, and the center spiral contains an original image designed by the community.

3. The different hands from all the communities combine to form a giant mural (megamural) like an international stained-glass window.

---- United by symmetry and replete with diversity.----

While each murals is created, the production site will be a stage for expression for the local community and also a platform for international exchange via livestream and an online interactive map.

Together we will Weave the Americas and connect a community as united as it is diverse.

We are artists, activists, musicians, scientists, engineers, storytellers, designers, and other creators who want to collaborate on a global level.

It started with BOOM:  www.globalboom.org with a mega-event on 11/11/11 that connected simultaneous events in 8 cities in 7 different countries via live video and projections.

Tejer las Américas // Weave the Americas consists of a series of murals and creative actions.    Argentina to Canada 2013-2014.

We travel by land, staying approximately 2 weeks in each community to collaborate on the mural, inaugurate the creative space, and forge a link to the other Tejer // Weave communities.

[The first section of the route]

--Interactive Local and International Stage--

While we create the murals, the site of production will be a stage for expression for the local community, an opportunity to share and celebrate with peers and neighbors.  We also use communication technology to share our actions on each “stage” with the rest of the international community that we are forming.

Why build a transcontinental community?

We, as creators, envision and bring to life the solutions that our world asks for.**

Many existing conflicts are perpetuated despite good intentions of the general public because of a seemingly insurmountable disconnect.  International problems seem "far away" even if they are partially rooted in one's own country because only diluted information reaches us, and we have few options for a two-way conversation.

It’s time to use the tools at hand—the free and democratic communication of the internet, the universal motivation to create, and the natural right of humans to move and explore.  In order to co-inhabit, we need open and active conversation.

There are so many incredible people at work on the same things, it's time for a platform to help us combine forces.  Let's not waste more time thinking that what separates us is more important than what unites us.

How does Weave the Americas // Tejer las Américas build community?

When you want to resolve an issue with people you live with, or with your family, or with your friends, what do you do?  Everyone has different tactics, but generally you talk to them.  Think of collective art like a visual conversation that surpasses language differences and goes right to the heart of things by keying into our imaginations and our ability to create what we want to see in the world.

We must communicate in order to have a community.  In exploring the ways in which we are diverse, we also find the things that we have in common.

Weave//Tejer is a context that invites focused and yet open-ended interaction.  Coming together to create allows a space for expression, for processing, for sharing, for compromising, for establishing one's place in relationship to one another while working towards a common goal.

Potentials for the digitally-woven megamural:

The megamural will act as a composite image to generate questions about how we define borders between ourselves, where the seams come together, and who gets to participate in defining how we fit together as humans and as cultures.

This image can be easily shared as a symbol for how we can work together, especially with the guiding forces of creativity and innovation.  The digital megamural can be shared with schools and organizations in different countries as an invitation to contribute their visions to the kaleidoscope.

The megamural will also serve as the portal to the interactive Weave//Tejer website.  Each section takes you to media of the local projects and interviews with the various creators.  This center of connection provides access for people of the Americas (North, Central, and South) to get to know each other and share our different perspectives of the world.

---- We gather at each mural site to share stories, inspirations,

and solutions.  An international community is born from the roots

of our homes. ----

The Missing Key:

Weave the Americas // Tejer las Américas is {{{almost}}} ready to roll!  We have contacts throughout the Americas to welcome the project into their communities, all we need is a van to get us there!  Funds raised here will go directly toward purchasing a van and getting it ready for the road.

What do you get out of it?

We'll be releasing monthly video updates sharing this journey.  We can be the eyes and ears of the collective, so if there's something that you are curious about and would like to explore, we will direct our senses towards your question.  This is an opportunity for you to share what's important to you and interact with an international audience.

Plus you get great rewards!

Artwork, videos, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces available.  Great gifts for the holidays!
