4-Minute Sneak PeekNow that we've filmed all our participants, here's what to expect, as this is actually a first version of our documentary. Your contributions will go towards the acquisition of all necessary resources for our team to do extensive post-production, have original music created so that we can finish the film and bring We Love Paleo to your screen!
We hope you enjoy it and thanks for donating!
We're completely thrilled to have reached our goal for 'bare bones' production of our indie feature documentary! Whilst this is great we still need your help to see this project through and get it on as many screens as possible!
What we have reached so far:
Thanks to the amazing support of our team and generosity of people we've met along our way, we have filmed all 14 interviews and observational footage in 6 different cities across 3 countries!
About the Documentary's Concept & Content
We Love Paleo (WLP), first puts its focus on what the Paleo lifestyle is and how it promotes optimal gene expression and translates to optimal health.
It reveals what it means to be Paleo in a mainstream world, go against Conventional Health Wisdom and defy dogma. Moreover, it shows the challenging but rewarding journey of people who were profoundly transformed by their new way of life and became passionate about promoting the Paleo lifestyle through their businesses as a means for others to achieve optimal health.

Our Participants… In a Nutshell!
Our Filmmaking Team
Why this documentary needs to be made
Each and every one of us has (or knows) a friend, relative or acquaintance that is either diabetic, overweight, has chronic heart disease or God forbid, all three at once. Then, there's the rest of us who think we lead healthy lives, conducive to well-being and longevity. The thing is, most of these ''healthy lifestyles'' aren't healthy at all!
This, summed up, is what drives our whole team to make this film. The topic of this film touches everyone.
- We mainly intend to spread the message about Paleo and raise public awareness of the existence of this healthy alternative to the Standard American/Western Diet (SAD).
- Reinforce the link between optimal health and what we put in our bodies.
- We also want to give people basic tools and advice on how to start converting their lifestyle to Paleo if they feel inspired to do so. (And we bet they will!)
Our dearest wish is to engage people and inspire them to adopt healthier lifestyles. The healthier the world gets as a whole, the better off we will all be.
A few stats that make our documentary on Paleo—a diet that has been scientifically proven to revert most lifestyle diseases—even more relevant!
What is Paleo?
From a lifestyle perspective
Put simply, the Paleo lifestyle refers to living (as much as one can) as our hunter-gatherer ancestors presumably did before the advent of agriculture 10,000 years ago by applying certain pre-agriculture behaviors to our modern-day life.
In addition to an adequate diet, this way of life is also about:
- Proper stress management, sun exposure and sleep (in quality and quantity).
- Bonding and connecting with nature and people (through face-to-face social interactions).
- Getting adequate physical and mental exercise.
- Partaking in recreational activities.
From a dietary perspective
The Paleo diet is based upon eating wholesome, contemporary foods from the food groups our hunter-gatherer ancestors would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era, the time period from about 2.6 million years ago to the beginning of the agricultural revolution, about 10,000 years ago.(Dr. Loren Cordain, The Paleo Diet)
On the dietary level, Paleo is based on the notion that for optimal health, modern humans should go back to eating whole unprocessed foods that are beneficial to our bodies. Foods recently introduced to our diets through agriculture such as grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, chemically processed vegetable and seed oils should be eliminated from our diets if we wish to achieve optimal health.
Therefore, our diet should consist of:
- Fresh vegetables
- Grass-produced meats
- Fresh fruits
- Nuts and seeds
- Healthful oils (Olive, walnut, flaxseed, macadamia, avocado, coconut)
We're only asking for 15k, because this is the
minimum additional amount needed for a minimalistic shoot in Austin (TX.), Fort Collins
(CO.), Olympia WA, London UK, Harrogate (UK) and Berlin (GER.). (Please see our
Accommodation: We have our bases covered with regard to accommodation in Austin, Berlin and London. As for the other locations, we'll be looking into really affordable places to crash at after our long days on set.
Food: We plan on having our own roomy pad (thanks again to friends' help in Austin). The flat in question will serve as accommodation, catering kitchen and interview space! This allows us to keep costs very low with regards to feeding the crew, etc. Five of our interviews will take place there.
Gear: there are numerous types of cameras one can shoot with along the spectrum of resolution quality. We're going to shoot with gear that will give us outstanding on screen quality and enable us to release our feature theatrically without needing to spend 15 or 25k. Through friends of friends we will gain access to excellent camera gear at a fraction of the price it would normally cost at a rental store.
This amount doesn't include post-production costs such as original music, effects, sound mixing, distribution, marketing and all the rest. For those line items we will have to source additional funds through another crowd funding campaign, fundraisers and private investors.Whatever it takes to make this documentary, we'll do it!
For now, here are some of the costs that we need to cover with the initial money raised through Indiegogo:
Pre-Production: September 2013 to March 2014
Crowdfunding: March to April 2014
Production: From April 2014
Post-Production: from May to January 2015
Release: April 2015 onwards
We plan on having a theatrical release, VOD/streaming/downloadable content, and potentially DVD release starting in 2015.
