This coming Friday, March 21, 2014, at 3:00, we are going to set up a barber shop - of sorts at San Marcos Fire Department Station 5! Most of you remember Stacy Malone who worked for the City of San Marcos' IT Department and had to leave a couple of years ago to care for her son Waylon who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. The San Marcos Professional Firefighters Association and others collected money to give Waylon, and his sister Morgan, bikes for Christmas that year.
Waylon has been steadily battling this terrible disease since then and now he is in Memphis, TN., at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital receiving yet another experimental treatment in hopes of curing him of this very stubborn form of cancer. A couple of days ago, as a result of his most recent treatments, Waylon's hair started to fall out again and, for some reason, this time he is taking that particularly hard.
To help boost his spirits and maybe even raise a few dollars for his medical care, several of us have decided to shave our heads. So far, San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero, Assistant City Manager Steve Parker, Assistant Police Chief Chase Stapp, IT Director Mike Sturm, Fire Chief Les Stephens, Assistant Fire Chief Karl Kuhlman, and Chris Malone (Waylon's dad) have committed. I want to extend the invitation to any/all of you who think you might want to join in to please show up at SM Fire Department Station 5 around 3:00 on Friday. Mayor Guerrero is making arrangements for barbers to be here to do the cutting but I know some of you have experience with this as well so bring your trimmers if you want! I realize this isn't for everyone and it's merely meant to be a fun deal. We are going to try to Skype it to Waylon so he can watch and we are also going to have a video made for him as well. If you want to donate a few dollars, we will take donations as well. Please check out the funding options below and feel free to donate any amount that you can. Every dollar helps!
