Short Summary

VIRGINS DIE HORNY  is a daring new drama that takes you into a distorted world where relationships between lovers and friends are put to the ultimate test.

Risky and wild. Thoughtful and heart-wrenching. Manic and disorienting. This play in not for the timid or the faint of heart …this is not your usual night at the theatre!

VIRGINS DIE HORNY is the provocative, funny, and terrifying story of Katie, a 38-year old woman, who has married for the third time in ten years.

The play opens on Katie’s honeymoon night with James and takes the audience on a cocaine-fuelled, alcohol-drenched roller coaster ride through the tangled relationships tenuously held by Katie and her three husbands, past and present – Jamie, Jimmy, and now James.

As the play unfolds, Jimmy, Katie’s second husband crashes the honeymoon, drunk and suicidal. Jimmy, holds Katie and her new husband, James, hostage  threatening to detonate the dynamite sown into the orange life jacket he is wearing under his coat. Meanwhile, Jimmy has secretly arranged for Jamie, Katie’s first husband to join them as well.

So by the end of the first act, poor Katie finds herself held hostage with all three of her husbands – on her honeymoon!

The second act is a terrifying and sometimes funny tour de force that builds to the reluctant disclosure of a carefully kept and devastating secret that all three husbands have agreed to keep from Katie. Events late in the second act, dictate that this secret must be told, regardless of the chilling consequences … consequences unlike any that you may have seen before on the London stage.

VIRGINS DIE HORNY -- What's that about?

On one level, the title provocatively alludes to the question: ‘Is it better to have loved and lost, then to have never loved at all?’

Katie is a woman who at times feels  she is defined by the men she marries. And the husbands feel that they are meant to care and protect Katie … firmly believing that they know what’s best for her. So, the play is about love, loneliness, protecting what you value, and holding onto secrets. The title itself refers to a decision that we are all faced with, a question that each of us needs to answer in some aspects of our lives … one way or another.

The question is this: Whether you are willing to risk pain, loss, and experience of venturing outside yourself to joint others or whether you would instead choose to be afraid, unable or unwilling to aspire to happiness, sex, love, life. And to rationalise some brand of solace in valuing safety over the expense of experience.

The phrase ‘Virgins Die Horny’ suggests that safety can only be ensured by not participating. But to refrain from participating … will inevitably leave one wanting, wondering, horny.

What We Need & What You Get

We need just £30,000 to bring VIRGINS DIE HORNY  to the London stage for a four week run mid-October to mid-November, 2014.

Approximately 60% of this budget will allow us to pay our very talented cast designers and crew at the recommended Equity scale. This is not something that is usually done in London’s ‘fringe theatre’ community.

We think it is critically important to pay our actors, designers and techniciansPlease help us to support these very talented artists in this truly unique theatrical endeavour.

Our budget will allow us to hire The Courtyard Theatre, in London's popular Shoreditch area, as well as promoting the play and creating a buzz to attract positive press coverage, allowing the play to transfer to a larger theatre.

This is a dream only you can help us to realise.

The Impact

I have been scribbling dialogue onto yellow pads since I was 16 years old. When I was young, I was told that when you pick a story you need to keep telling it over and over again, until you get it ‘right.'

Forty years later, with VIRGINS DIE HORNY, I feel that I finally have it right.

I have been living with the characters for over 25 years, and now that I have moved from the States to London, I feel this play is ready for the London stage.

It's time for the characters to live and breathe. I know they will touch the lives of those who come to see them. They are deep souls, they are edgy, vulnerable and funny, just like the best of us.

I have written, directed, and produced 12 of my own scripts and have worked with other playwrights bringing their scripts to the stage, often for the first time. Some of my work has been staged Off-Off Broadway in New York.

VIRGINS DIE HORNY will be my London debut.

Impact: Why this Play NEEDS to be produced

Some plays are seen as ‘important’ because of the context of their social significance, by the play’s relevance to the time it inhabits, and because it invites an audience to reflect on their own experiences, for better or for worse.

I believe that VIRGINS DIE HORNY will provide audiences with an opportunity to reflect on their own experiences of relationships, revealing issues that are certain to be relevant and powerful. This play explores the notion of personal, intimate safety against the backdrop of the inherent risks of intimate relationships ... and certain things that we do 'to' or 'with' those we profess to love.
