Who we are: We are The Tap Ten. A mobile gaming startup specializing in visual content and video production. Our team consists of two people: Rich ‘Ketchum” Uyesugi and Spiro Khouri.
What are we creating: a daily travel/gaming video series and social media experience.
Our Vision: We want to create an epic Youtube series for the PokemonGO community and anyone else who appreciates cheap travel, adventure and a bit of obsessive gaming.
In order to make the series epic we are tasking co-founder Rich with the responsibility of backpacking to these countries and shooting the videos on an iPhone 6s and editing them on the go with a macbook with barely any money!
He is to become a modern day Ash Ketchum by traveling far and wide to capture Pokemon and battle other trainers. He will tell the story via daily Youtube videos and social media like Snapchat, Twitter and Periscope.
Here’s Our Big Hairy Goal: To visit 20+ countries over 6 months and produce 150+ YouTube videos.
What we can afford on our own: To visit 4 countries over 40 days and produce 25+ videos.
Why should you care:
Once this story gets going it is going to have international coverage. PokemonGO is smashing records and this content has the potential to as well. The further we go the bigger the story gets and the community will get rewarded with more awesome video and social content. Content that you can be apart of and sponsor today.
What $5000 actually gets us:
Not included: travel costs, light transportation, incidentals or pokeballs.
So $5000 isn’t even enough to get us to our Big Hairy Goal. But that’s okay. We’ll use any money we can garner from sponsorships and ad revenue as well. Spiro will be working hard back at our Vancouver HQ to keep the dream alive.
The Worldwide PokemonGO Adventure Timeline
Aug 6th - West Coast road trip to Nintendo HQ, start filming.
City List: Whistler, Vancouver, Redmond, Portland
Aug 24th - Fly from Vancouver to South East Asia
Country list: Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong
We won't be able to book anything solid for a week a so when we have a better idea of where we are on funding.
Why haven't you made much PokemonGO content yet?
Excellent question. Well the game has only been out in Canada for less than two weeks. By the time we decided to execute this campaign and the entire project, we had to put all hands on deck on dozens of other tasks. We are very serious about getting this project off the ground so if we don't get funded on Indiegogo we will be hamming the emails for sponsorships. That requires a lot of preparation and work.
Between the two of us we:
We intend to start releasing PokemonGO content within days. We are planning a West Coast road trip to the Nintendo HQ in Redmond, Washington on Aug 6th to start creating the core content and the beginning of the adventure story.
A little more about the content creator Rich 'Ketchum' Uyesugi
Rich has an extensive education in TV broadcasting and video production. Rich has been creating various kinds of digital content for over 15 years. He has produced short films, created YouTube content and continued to grow his digital marketing skill set.
In 2011, Rich went to law school for further studies.
In 2013, Rich moved from Canada to Hong Kong, finished his final year of law school abroad and left his corporate job a few months after graduation. Started travelling more.
In 2014, Rich started a new company called Milestone Metrics which is a digital marketing agency. Rich designed his business so him and his partner could work together remotely.
In 2016, Rich founded The Tap Ten with Spiro Khouri, who both shared an interest in gaming, game development, content production and many other similar topics.
Between growing his marketing agency, the client work and the new mobile gaming startup, he started to get burnt out.
Rich says, "I've built a nice business and lifestyle but it forces me to be focused on too many things at once. With a dozen active clients it can get overwhelming. I told them all I'm taking a break and going to do something crazy."
He told his clients, "Don't worry, when I get back I will be able to help you even more."
Rich sees this as an incredible opportunity to make life-changing content. "I want to make inspiring content. I'm a pretty regular guy but I know life happens outside of your comfort zone. So I'm putting myself out there. If I can inspire a few people along the way I've done my job. "
Rich says it's more than just a game, "PokemonGO is a fantastic game, but it is just a game. This project is really about life and not settling for one that isn't yours. My purpose is to make content and help people grow, so I'm doing that in the best way I know how."
