Who We Are
Valley Green Feast is a worker-owned cooperative that delivers
local food to homes all year round. We have been serving Western Mass. for five
years and now we’re on our way to Boston! Our mission is to support local farms
and small businesses and to bring healthy, delicious food to customers. We
prioritize sourcing organic, fair trade and co-operatively produced food from
within Massachusetts. We are committed to being part of a local food system
that minimizes environmental impacts, strengthens our economy, and increases
access to healthy and affordable food.
What We Offer
For five years, we have partnered with many local farms to gather seasonal baskets of vegetables and fruit, meat, cheese, bread, honey, and so much more, delivered weekly to homes in Western Mass. by car and bicycle. To expand our reach and further our mission of environmental sustainability, we have partnered with Boston Collective Delivery, a South Boston based bicycle courier service and fellow worker owned co-operative to provide Boston with a year round local food service that lets customers decide what they want and when they want it.
We offer produce boxes in five sizes to meet every need, and we’re flexible. Want fruits and vegetables every week? Every other week? Only on special occasions? No problem! Want extra fruit or greens? We’ve got ‘em. Prefer not to eat beets or collards? Just let us know, and we’ll give you something else instead. Already have a garden or CSA share? We also deliver all the delicious local foods to compliment your veggies.
To start, our delivery area in Boston will include: Jamaica Plain, North End Downtown, Downtown Financial, West End/ Beacon Hill, China Town, Back-bay, South End, Innovation District, South Boston, South Boston/Umass, Fenway, Fenway BU, Fenway NE, Mission Hill, Roxbury and Dorchester!
What Makes This Project Unique?
There are many exciting and wonderful things going on in the local food movement in Western Mass, Boston, and throughout the country. This project goes a step beyond other local and organic food projects because Valley Green Feast is a proud worker-owned cooperative business: all of us own an equal share in our business, and we make all decisions as a group. Working with other co-ops is important to us, and we have partnered with Boston Collective Delivery and Stone Soup Farm Co-op to create one of the first closed loop worker co-op supply chains in the country.
Together, we are working to change business as usual by increasing the number of cooperatives in local food, and building a future where everyone who produces, delivers, and enjoys local food is treated with respect and understanding as an essential member of the local food community.
By contributing to this campaign, you not only increase access
to local food and support Valley Green Feast’s expansion into Boston, you also
support all of the farmers and small businesses with whom we work: Stone Soup
Farm Cooperative, Next Barn Over Farm, Enterprise Farm, Blue Gate Farm, Queen's
Greens, Warner Farm, Red Fire Farm, Winter Moon Farm, Apex Orchards, Kitchen
Garden Farm, Cricket Creek Farm, Flying Colors Farm, Sidehill Farm, Clarkdale Fruit Farms, Robinson
Farm, Sangha Farm, River Rock Farm, Diemand Farm, Four Star Farms, Equal
Exchange, Katalyst Kombucha, Real Pickles, Appalachian Naturals, Indigo Coffee,
Zawalick's Sugar House, Warm Colors Apiary, and many more!
We need your support! Your contributions will help to fund our Boston expansion with purchases of weather-resistant delivery supplies, increased inventory of locally-produced foods, cold storage, and a new solar-electric assist cargo bike for more efficient deliveries in the city.
The total cost of supplies for this expansion is $12,000. In addition, each worker/owner is volunteering the hours necessary to get things rolling. We need your help to achieve this goal!
For your generous contributions, we are offering a handful of “thank you” perks, listed on the right side of this page. For supporters outside of our delivery areas, perks can be transferred to a lucky Bostonian of your choice. Please note, due to our tight budget, all contributions are considered unrestricted gifts.
Paying It Forward
We are grateful for the support of the community, and we are committed to returning what we raise through this campaign back to the community by expanding our current low-income discount program and increasing accessibility to good food over time.
