The purpose of the Gala

For the first time, students, alumni and community members can all participate in UAF's annual Chancellor's Gala whether they attend in person or not. This year's gala takes place February 8, 2014 in Fairbanks, Alaska. The gala is a fun community event featuring fine dining and live music. But without a doubt, the evening's most fun takes place during the silent and live outcry auctions. Here, you can get into the action!

Because this event celebrates the partnership between UAF and the Fairbanks community, proceeds benefit two organizations that are chosen each year by Chancellor Rogers and Sherry Modrow. This year, the funds raised by the Gala will benefit the UAF Music Department, hosting the Alaska International Piano-e-Competition and the With All Your Heart campaign in support of the Harry and Sally Porter Heart Center at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

Donations and perks

The perks offered here are not available anywhere else and are exclusive to our indiegogo.com Gala fundraising campaign. From virtual shout-outs on our social networks, to unique gifts like Alaskan postcards and limited edition t-shirts, to the Ultimate Gala experience for two -- there is something for everyone!

Even if you can't physically attend the Gala, your donation will go directly to the University of Alaska Foundation in support of the UAF Chancellor's Gala.

Your donation is tax-deductible. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Where your money goes

Through IndieGoGo, our goal is to raise at least $12,000 for the Chancellor's Gala event. Your contribution will serve a key role in supporting two deserving organizations.

The With All Your Heart campaign supporting the Harry & Sally Porter Heart Center at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital

The Harry & Sally Porter Heart Center, the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and the UAF Nanook hockey team have a strong, long-standing relationship.  In 2011, Kaare Odegard (UAF defenseman) and Shawn Head (UAF volunteer Nanook hockey team office manager) came to the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation with an idea, a vision, a passion—to honor their fathers by creating a campaign to raise money and awareness for the Harry & Sally Porter Heart Center.  And with that vision and the support of the hospital foundation, the With All Your Heart campaign was born.

The Nanooks and UAF community continue to pour time and effort into supporting the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation. The Harry & Sally Porter Heart Center plays an important role in our community by giving Fairbanks residents with heart-related problems specialized care instead of traveling to Anchorage or Seattle.

UAF Department of Music, hosting the 2014 Alaska International Piano-e-Competition

The Alaska International Piano-e-Competition for young artists ages 32 and under will take place June 28 to July 12, 2014 and is going to be a far-reaching event for our university.  Putting on such a prestigious and international event would not be possible without the vision of President’s Professor of Piano at the UAF and music director and conductor of Fairbanks Symphony Dr. Eduard Zilberkant, and the support of Chancellor Brian Rogers.

The Alaska International Piano-e-Competition is the ultimate combination of live performance and technology. During the Piano-e-Competition, participants will have the opportunity to perform on a Yamaha CFX concert grand piano. What is unique about this instrument is that it is equipped with state-of-the-art Disklavier Pro recording technology. This system, pioneered by Yamaha, is the fusion of the acoustic piano and computer electronics to allow solo rounds of the competition to be downloaded via Musicians in Debut International (MIDI) to be enjoyed anywhere in the world. The entire competition will be broadcast "live" via streaming audio/video over the Internet. Performances are judged and the top performer wins not only prestige, but also a $30,000 prize!

Yamaha Corporation of America will be transporting their flagship Disklavier, the phenomenal DCFX, to Fairbanks, which is not a small undertaking. It will make it possible for the e-Competition to continue creating new audio/video files, adding to the already huge library of piano performances. As before, every individual and institution that owns a Disklavier will be able to see and hear the competition from Alaska in real time.

The Impact

Over the past five years, UAF Chancellor Brian Rogers and his wife, Sherry Modrow, have stressed the way the event strengthens bonds between UAF and Interior communities. They note that each year has been more successful than the last.
