My name is Eva and I am an opera singer, actor, dancer, choreographer and environmental activist. I have grown up around very passionate people who want to make a difference in people's lives. This is our dream and we are making it a reality:
Our dream is to create an off-grid and heritage farming learning center based in the Shuswap. This facility's purpose is to demonstrate and put into practice multiple sustainable initiatives in order to strengthen and educate communities. By promoting lost heritage techniques in addition to newer,
emerging methods, we have a chance to lessen our impact on our planet while
reconnecting with the very roots of our humanity.
This is a very large and expensive project with many components, including
permaculture food forests, market gardens, alternative building projects,
traditional dairy production, heritage wool processes, and traditional
culinary classes as well as many others.But today we are trying to
fundraise for just one part of the dream: an underground greenhouse.
After doing much research on reliable growing techniques, my dad discovered a plan for a partially underground greenhouse that uses geothermal heat to heat the plants within it. The greenhouse is 12 feet tall, 5 of which is
underground. Pipes that transport the natural heat from within the earth up to
the greenhouse are dug 8 feet into the ground. Fans are used to transfer this
air into the greenhouse, keeping the temperature in the greenhouse hot
enough to grow citrus and a variety of tropical fruit… all the time!

What We Need
Approximate cost for materials:
Dome = $10,000
Piping/motors = $2,000
Fruit trees and other plants = Upwards of $1,000
Labour/machinery rental= Upwards of $3,000
Total = $20,000
We are hoping to raise half of that total!
- We can grow various tropical fruits and veggies all year round! We will be updating everyone on our progress throughout the building process.
-Educating our communities about alternative and sustainable food production
methods in a time when food security is a necessity. We would be
offering consultations and/or demonstrations after the completion of the
project to teach others how to benefit from this innovation.
-Decreasing footprint and reliance on fruit and vegetable products that
are not grown in our own climate.
