Painting The City Bright will create huge awareness for Uganda and the City of Jinja, for all the positives it has to offer. Painting The City Bright will lift the country on the international map. People all over the world will recognise Uganda and Jinja for something beautiful. A great tourist destination, a city with huge business potential, a thriving culture and a lot more.
Most of all Painting The City Bright will inspire and create opportunities for the People of Uganda.
Jinja has so much to offer and best of all is the people of Jinja whom make others feel happy, just by being around them. This is the best medicine to heal the heart and spirit of most people on this planet. The Mayor of Jinja asked Big Steve to come and help him show of his city to the rest of the world and this is our story.
We decided that the best way to create awareness of Jinja was to do something that everyone in Jinja could be involved in. The Center piece of this campaign is that everyone would feel welcome and free to take part, or be a part of history happening right on their own door step. The idea developed is open to the entire community, Painting The City Bright. This would make Jinja the ‘most colourful city in Africa’ and by taking part, would be something that residents of Jinja could feel proud to be part of.
Why are we doing this?
This campaign is very important to us, Jinja And UGANDA has been known for a lot of negatives over several years. We all know that every country and City has their negatives, but they also have their Positive. So we made a promise to help the Mayor of Jinja and the people of Uganda to reach out to the world and show that Jinja has a lot to offer and that the People on Jinja are the happiest people in the world. It's time to put Jinja back on the map, and on the right road to success.
We are all volunteers working on this project, the money we are asking for all goes to covering expenses to bring the team of 12 to the equator. And to help out with all the expenses these 3 BIG events will cost.
The Events Happening in MAY.
The program begins with a relay from Jinja to Northern Sweden, where glass bottles shaped like Uganda’s delicious Nile Perch fish and like hippos, will be filled with water from the source of the Nile and then carried, on and adjacent to the Nile, over the Mediterranean and Europe, ending up in Skellefteå in Northen Sweden.
During the trip, there will be a variety of cultural events with music and dance from Jinja. By 2014, the glass bottles are expected to have reached Northern Sweden and will be given to Mayors of various municipalities.
This will be a great opportunity to sell Jinja’s potential because its at that time that the city of Umeå in Västerbotten county in Sweden would have taken over as the European Capital of Culture.
History will be written in Jinja, when The First African Ice Swimming Championship is staged, an event that officials of Jinja Municipal Council have said will be like bringing the polar circle to the equator. Jinja residents have been inspired to undertake this from the city of Skellefteå in Northern Sweden, where, for the last two years both The Swedish and Scandinavian championship in winter swimming were held.
The water temperature in the swimming pool will be lowered to about 10 ° C, a rare phenomenon at the equator, for the championship to take place. Both individual races and relays are on the program.
Thousands of people will paint 66 houses on Main Street in cheerful colors. Here, men and women, boys and girls will go out on the street and grabs brushes to brighten their city. On painting day there will even be a carnival on the Main Street with lots of musicians, dancers and other types of artists including world class reggae artists
