Tolkien's Road

This is a student film project about J.R.R. Tolkien's journey to beginning his first book "The Hobbit." But before he can bring the world of Middle-Earth to life he must overcome the trauma of fighting in WWI and find his voice again. Tolkien's imagination comes to life everywhere he looks in the form of Elves, Dwarves and Dragons. But it is when he meets the Hobbit that he is transported on a journey of self discovery which will change himself and the world of literature forever.

My name is Nye Green and this is my college graduating project. This is a rather ambitious project, but one that I am passionate about. When my senior year began and it came time to decide what I was going to be working on over the next year, I realized I had a choice. I could choose to film a simple story in a modern setting that I knew I would not be as passionate about or I could take a risk and try to make a film that I would be really excited about!

What we need and how you can help

The majority of the film takes place in 1929 Oxford, England with a few sequences from WWI. Obviously, this means that we will need period accurate and fantasy(for the Hobbit, Elves Orcs and Black Rider!) costumes and props, nice locations, some special effects and food to feed our actors and crew. I am very lucky to have access to quality lighting, sound and camera equipment, so that won't be an issue.
The true ambition of the project lies in it's length. The script is 33 pages, which is about 33 minutes in screen time. Shooting a film of this length takes time. We are hoping to raise $15,000 to make this film as awesome as it can be. But any amount of money would be a unbelievable help!
For donating you will not only receive our undying gratitude, but we also have many cool and fantabulous rewards for our benefactors! Including, social media shout out, digital download of the film, signed copies of the DVD, posters, production photos, Tolkien's notebook from the film signed by the cast and crew and producer's credit!

Other ways you can help

If you can't make a donation you can still help in a big way by sharing this page, liking the project on facebook and following us on twitter.
