Who Is the "Towel Guy"?

If you have ever been to a St. Louis Blues hockey game, you've probably noticed that after each goal the Blues score, a fan gets up and leads the crowd in counting each goal, after which he throws a towel into the crowd.  This is a tradition that has been going on for 24 years at Blues games.  Ron Baechle is that fan.

In 2012 he was picked by Sports Illustrated on their list of noteworthy sports super fans

Why Should I Help Pay for His Tickets?

Ron Baechle has been doing this since 1990, and he buys his own tickets.  As Blues fans, we can show our appreciation for what he does, and help pay for his playoff tickets this year.

If the Towel Guy suddenly didn't show up one day, many fans would notice. This is a long standing tradition and helps to add a unique atmosphere to Blues games.

How Much Is This Going To Cost?

Because of various factors such as home ice advantage, how long each series will last, and how far the Blues will go in the playoffs, there is no way to calculate the exact cost; but based off last year's playoff ticket prices, we'd like to buy two tickets for each game, one for the Towel Guy, and one for his wife, tickets will cost around $55 each in the first round.  Assuming there will be 4 home games in the first round, it would cost $440 to pay for the tickets.

In the 2nd round last year, ticket prices rose to $59 per seat.  So again, assuming there are 4 home games played in that series, it would cost $472 for round two, bringing the total to $912.

We'd like to at least pay for the first two rounds of playoff tickets, so our initial goal is $1,000, to compensate for the money that Indiegogo will take and ticket taxes.  If we go over that goal and the Blues make it past the 2nd round, we will put any additional money made from the campaign to paying for the next round.

In total we would like to raise $2,500, to be able to pay for all potential rounds of the playoffs.  If the Blues are eliminated from the playoffs before the Stanley Cup Finals, extra money left over will be put toward buying the Towel Guy and his wife season tickets for next year; if there is still money left over after that, we will buy tickets for games and hold contests for fans like you to win tickets to Blues games!

Who Are We?

We are the Toast Dispatch, a parody website that focuses on St. Louis sports.

We're big Blues fans and want to say thanks to the Towel Guy for being a part of St. Louis hockey.

We've talked to the Towel Guy, he says he loves what he's doing and that nobody owes him anything, but we want to say thanks.
