A brief press release can be read here: http://www.columbian.com/news/2013/aug/25/motorcyclist-seriously-injured-late-night-crash/.
Mike has undergone surgery and will begin speech and physical therapy right away. Our hope is for him and his family to be able to focus on his recovery without the worry and stress of finances, so we are reaching out and asking people to help in any way they can.
We now know more of Mike's injuries and wanted to update you all. Mike injured the C4, 5 and 6 vertebrae in his neck. After two surgeries to stabilize his neck, he had a respirator put in to assist with his breathing, then also had an additional surgery to set a broken thumb. There were issues of fluid building in his lungs, but he has been breathing much better today. The severity overall of these injuries means that Mike will have to work hard to regain movement in his arms and legs. His positive spirit and drive to move on to therapy has us all inspired. If anyone can overcome this, it is Mike!We do not know what the continued medical costs and rehabilitation expense will be for Mike, but we all thank you for your support!
Mike has had some challenges in his healing. Mike is currently fighting pneumonia, which means he is still on the respirator. Mike's lungs seem to be finally clearing so we are hopeful he gets over the pneumonia quickly.
The great news is that Mike has been able to do physical therapy and now has some movement in his right arm and wrist. Once the pneumonia clears Mike will be able to continue his therapies.
Thank you everyone for your ongoing support.
