THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT SEASON is a film about the snowboard film that never came. Production for "1997 FOREVER" started some time in 1997/98, but no one really knows when or why it ended. The film was set to portray what arguably was one of the most progressive scenes in the world at the time, although barely known to the outside world. The creative epicenter for what some would call the revolutionary local movement was a small snow/skateboarding store, owned by a mysterious character/Godfather/Manager/Coach/Spiritual leader Vegard Scheffler, which spawned internationally renowned snowboarders such as Daniel Mikkelsen and underground local legends such as Stian Tapani Gundersen (who - to our best knowledge - landed the first ever documented cab 1260 in a contest in 1997 (!)), Roy Olsen and Stian Skjærvik.

This film explores the underground phenomenon that was snowboarding
culture in its infancy, the characters that made up the community, the clash of
social nuances in an extremely conform culture and the psychology of
"getting back in the game" some 17 years past their adolescent hey days.
The story picks up sometime around 2011, following the reunited group of childhood snowboard friends and riders, following them over a period of three years (primarily in and around their native town Tromsø, Norway but also around to world - revisiting the dream they once shared - shooting snowboarding in and around legendary spots such as Jackson Hole, Riksgränsen, Mt. Baker, Revelstoke, Lofoten, Lyngen, Whistler, New Zealand (Treble Cone, Cardrona, Ohau) and more, trying to finish the snowboard film that was meant to come out more than 15 years earlier.
Interview objects include everything from family, friends and otherwise related people to the scene portrayed but also international snowboard legends and contemporary superstars such as Terje Haakonsen, Torstein Horgmo, Andreas Ygre Wiig, Danny Larsen and Gjermund Braathen and legendary snowboard filmmakers Jerry Dugan (who is narrating "1997 FOREVER"), Mike Hatchett, Mike "Mack Dawg" McEntire and Jamie Mosberg.
The film combines archival VHS footage and still photography with new footage shot in HD and Super-8 mm.
The film is directed by Carl Christian Lein Størmer, originally one of the riders in the Tromsø-scene, who quit snowboarding after a traumatic brain injury in 1998. He has since gone on to become a medical doctor, but quit his physician job in 2011 to pursue making this film - having stated that the years spent growing up in the scene was so impactful to him that he couldn't move forward in life without getting some closure to the tale that is portrayed in this film.
Since getting into filmmaking through working on this film he has gone on to produce several short films and music videos (list of links included below) that has been featured on several film festivals internationally.

PLAN, PURPOSE AND IMPACT
It's been a long and winding road to where we are at today, going into our final season of shooting snowboarding footage and finishing up the interviews for the film. We hope to complete shooting by may 2014 and move on to post production that will go on until the scheduled release for THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT SEASON come January 2015. To spesify further what the crowdfunding money will be used for:
- Sound mix
- Original Soundtrack Recording & Mixing
- Special effects
- External music rights
- External footage rights
We'll be dead honest: We've been working full time with pretty much NO money for more than two years now which is doable given the level of passion from all the guys involved. But we've now reached the point where we need to reach out for help to complete this film. Allthough we strongly believe in the "Do It Yourself" ethics engraved in our DNA from the days growing up the snowboard community, we are now facing production processes that we need outside help with in order for the film to be as (pardon my french) f..... great as it has to be. It's as easy as that.
This project has indeed felt like one big "community project" from the day we started, and we would never have been where we are today without the help of old/new friends. In our hometown, around Norway and abroad. Given the response to the previous trailers, our online presence and the good old word of mouth, we strongly feel there are people out there (outside the core group) that really want to see this film completed (against most odds, we might add).
So we're reaching out now to the people, to take part, get ownership and help us land this precious thing.
