I'm Jeremy, the nerd from the video. One of the weird things about me is I've always been a nerd, but I didn't come to that realization until I was in my mid-20s. An injury at work put me on my couch for two weeks, then a couple months later an appendectomy gave me another two weeks off. During that time, with nothing to do but watch TV or movies, read books, and play video games I started exploring other "nerdy" areas that I had never taken the time to explore. Gradually the things that most classify as "nerdy" became more prominent in my house. My friends would come over and ask how I liked the graphic novel sitting on the couch, only for me to have to point out that "that one is my wife's." She was getting nerdy with me.

Then things got interesting. I became Mr. Mom. My wife gave birth to our daughter in February of 2011. I've been the stay at home parent since. I even started looking forward to afternoon bottle feedings, because I got to hold my daughter and watch an episode of Firefly.

I've loved every minute of it. There is still part of me, though, that misses work. This time though, work that I'm passionate about. Work that allows me time with my family. I can't sleep in the break room for two hours between shifts anymore, I have a wife, a daughter, and a soon to be here son.

I wanted to start my own game and comic store. My wife knew I would be working 80+ hours a week, and wisely said no. I finished my Business Administration degree during this time and continued pondering what to do. Then we had the ultrasound and found out, IT'S A BOY! I was ecstatic. Star Wars, comic books, Legos, and on and on. Sharing all of these interests with not just my daughter, but my kids.

But, there was a problem. I couldn't find a site that discussed all my nerdy interests. Not only that, some of the sites were not great quality and others just weren't family friendly (at all). Clearly this was something that was needed. I started TheNerdyBomb.com. I reached out, looking for people that had the same thought; there needs to be a site for ALL of us. Now there is, and that's where you come in.

Who and What?

We have a team of dedicated writers, producing original content geared towards all areas of "nerd culture." Our site isn't just geared to the biggest movies, TV shows, and comic books. We also discuss board gaming, science and technology, parenting, and more. Something else that sets us apart is our focus on the "independent creator." At TheNerdyBomb we realize that great content does not just come from big corporations, but from small business or even no business at all.  We interview and feature the "independent creator" on TheNerdyBomb, knowing that we can help others succeed, together.

Why?

My wife and I started this adventure from our savings. That seemed like a great idea at the time. Then we were informed our site had been coded improperly and would cost as much to fix as it would to rebuild. So, we found a new Cincinnati based web design company, and had the site rebuilt. The money used to rebuild our site was going to be used to pay to upgrade our hosting, add community features to the site, and help fund our writers to go to different conventions throughout the United States and Canada. Conventions are a huge part of "nerd culture." Attending conventions allows us to not only promote the site, but also provide unique content for our readers. Your support allows us to get back on track.

What We Need?

We are trying to raise $10,000. That's a lot of money, but we know we can do it. Here's the breakdown of where that money will go.

$300- Credit Card Company Fee

$400- Indiegogo Fee (4% if we hit our goal, it goes up to 9% if we don't)

$500- Upgraded Hosting for One Year

$1,300- Improved and New Community Features

$3,000- Conventions and Travel

$4,500- Perks and Shipping (Having things produced in the USA costs a little more. We feel it's worth it.)
