Hi my name is Allen, I'm a 23 year old computer programmer and hobby woodworker.
I've really only recently got into woodworking but it is a lot of fun.
Looking around at all the new things that we are supposed to be putting in our living rooms, the PS4, the XBox One, a home theater PC... They are nice and all, but none of them are really all that attractive from a home design point of view. They are all metal and black plastic with angles.
What I want to make is a set of plans for a small home theater PC made out of wood. My idea is that you could make the top (or side if you rather),with whatever design you wish, but my personal choice would be a chessboard. Something small, between 16"x16"x7" and 12"x12"x4".
What I NeedI am not a modeller or an engineer. To see how best to fit everything together in an easy to build case, I would need to get the actual parts themselves.
To that end, here are the parts I propose to get:
MiniITX motherboard (6.7"x6.7") $100
AMD APU A-8 or greater (Good graphics, small size) $100
8gb of RAM $75
1TB hard drive $70
MicroATX power supply (compromise between price and size) $27
Blu-Ray drive $50
Windows 7 $99
Why a copy of Windows 7, that doesn't take up space!?!
Well that's included in there because I plan on giving the finished product away, not keeping it myself. I don't feel it would be fair to run a campaign to make woodworking plans and then keep the HTPC free for myself. Who I'm thinking of giving it to, if your interested, would be the Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle.
