Who are we? We're a crew of educated, trained and extremely experienced indie filmmakers. We've worked together on several projects, including over a dozen commercials, short films and two feature films. We have developed a great mutual respect and admiration for each others abilities, and truly enjoy working as a team.
Our key crew is comprised of:
Brent Duncan ... Writer, director, producer, cinematographer, editor, visual effects artist and colorist.
Amanda Duncan ... Producer, script supervisor, location manager.
Chris Sias ... Producer, assistant director.
Ben Allison and Jonathan Mohs ... Seamlessound, simply put - these two are the best sound crew around.
So what's the film all about?
The Unknown explores what happens to an individual during an ordeal that completely breaks them psychologically. In the case of Jacob Martin, the kidnapping of his wife and three children. The kidnapper known as The Voice tells Jacob that there is indeed one thing he can do to save his family or so it seems. The film begs the question: What would you be willing to endure to save your family? Join us on this psychological thriller and help us make our dream come true!
Jacob Martin ... Douglas Sidney
Emma Martin ... Krystal Kasulis
Ava Martin ... Elisabeth Grace
Joshua Martin ... Noah Coon
Olivia Martin ... Mara Jade
The Voice ... Rich Love
Chloe Williams ... Faith Udeh
JACOB MARTIN is a man living the American Dream. He lives in a quiet suburban neighborhood with his wife EMMA and their three children; AVA, JOSHUA and OLIVIA. He is a junior investment banker at a successful firm in the city. The Martin Family follows the same routine everyday and are very happy with their lives.
One evening, Jacob arrives home from work to an unusually empty and quiet house. He calls Emma's cell phone, only to find she left it at home and begins wondering where they are. He makes a few calls to see if anyone had seen or heard from them, with no luck. Figuring maybe Emma took the kids shopping, he makes himself dinner and then falls asleep while reading a book. He is startled awake by the home phone ringing...
The caller ID shows UNKNOWN CALLER, Jacob answers. THE VOICE on the other end is a man who informs him he has kidnapped his family, and tells Jacob he must not call the police, not tell anyone, stay calm and most importantly listen to what The Voice has to say if he ever wants to see them again.
The Voice informs Jacob he has been watching his family for some time. He begins to ramble on and on, pushing Jacob to his breaking point time and again. As The Voice psychologically tortures him, Jacob has to fight not only to save his family, but his sanity and his soul as well. The Martin Family will be changed forever.
Should we meet our goal, the project will generate dozens of jobs for various independent filmmakers, actors, contractors as well as greatly help promote many small businesses. Equally as important, if not more so, we are pledging 25% of the film's net profits to local Minnesota area schools, because we strongly believe in promoting education for our children.
If we dont get the proper funding,
you will you not be able to see our awesome film! More importantly, however, we
will not be able to introduce to the world one of our actors, Rich Love, who will
certainly become the most awkwardly hilarious Late Night with Jay Leno guest
of all time. This is why it is vital for you to donate!
On a more serious note, it is our hope that this film will help put the spotlight on the indie film community in Minnesota; that there are some amazingly talented people, both actors and crew members here. If we do not make our goal, we will use whatever monies are raised to help secure as much of what is required for the film to proceed as we can, and pursue other possible routes to make the film happen!
Wait, the film's not done yet? Didn't I just watch a trailer for it?Yes, you did! Much like in Spaceballs, technology has evolved to the point where we now have 'instant video'. You can literally see the movie before it's finished! Just kidding, the reality is that we hired our cast, brought in our crew and shot a 'proof-of-concept' trailer, specifically for this campaign. We wanted to not only show people what we had in mind tonally for the film, but also to give an example of what sort of production value our crew can achieve, so you'll know that when we say we can make this film amazing, we mean it!
What We NeedSimply put, we're raising money! We want The Unknown to go from film dream to film reality, but we can't do it without you. We've got a strong screenplay, a stellar cast, an incredible crew and our proof of concept trailer is getting rave reviews! All that's missing is enough funding to get the film made. That's where you come in!
We're raising $300,000 to get the film made, and we need your help to reach our goal! Film production is broken down to 3 phases: Pre-Production (hiring cast and crew, getting everything set up to shoot), Production (actually shooting the film) and Post-Production (editing and sound work to get the film ready for release).
We've already done most of the pre-production work. We've done auditions for the cast (6 months of auditions with hundreds of potentials), hired the key crew including director, producers, editor, sound team and production designer, and have begun scouting locations. Most of the money you donate will go to securing locations, lining up equipment and getting the props we will need. To help ensure the look envisioned by director Brent Duncan, we will need two key pieces of equipment: a Steadicam and a RED EPIC camera system, which will allow the actors to have more freedom to move and react to the situations while also allowing for some amazing slow motion shots.
Once we get into production, money will be needed for food and permits to film in certain locations, as well as payment for the actors and crew.
For post-production, funds will be used to help ensure that not only does the film look and sound great, but that we are able to successfully market the film and get it into theaters.
$300,000 seems like a really small movie budget. Isn't it?
It is, yes. Fortunately for us, we have a crew that is very experienced in making great quality films on a minimal budget, which allows us to keep up our production value while keeping our costs low. Everyone takes on multiple jobs behind-the-scenes, much like how some Hollywood filmmakers do it (Robert Rodriguez, we're looking at you).
What You Get
Every dollar counts! This is our firm belief, and it's with that thought in mind that we will be offering a 'Special Thanks' credit right off the bat to everyone who donates as little as $1. From there the perks get even better! From Thank You cards signed by the director, access to exclusive content while the film is still in production, digital downloads, DVD's/Blu Ray's, Co-Producer and Co-Executive Producer credits (in name only, holds no creative power) in both the film AND on IMDB.com (so you can show off your bragging rights!), to passes to the World Premiere of the film and the after party! You could even have the director fly to your hometown and host a private screening of the film for you and your friends! There's more, so check out the donation levels below and choose one that's right for you.
Other Ways You Can Help
Times are tough, and we get that. So if you can't spare a dollar, then what? Share this link. Help us get the word out, and by doing so you will help us more than you can imagine! How many times have you tried or done something solely on the recommendation of a friend or family member? Peer pressure people! It works! Really, it all comes down to numbers. The more people that see the trailer and visit our page, the more likely we will have a successful campaign and make, or dare we say, exceed our goal. If you like what you saw/see in the trailer, tell people. It's a simple way that you can help make our dream come true!
No matter what, thank you for taking the time to check out our project. We truly hope you enjoyed what you've seen.
