HELP US BUILD THE TEXAS GUITAR ARMY!
The Texas Guitar Army is an epic story of truly amazing artists who are completely devoted to an innovative new music project. We are working on a new concept which will bring incredible guitar music to audiences across the US and in Europe.
Like every good tale, the story of the Texas Guitar Army has all the basic components, Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How.
What is the Texas Guitar Army? What are we fighting for? The intent is to launch and support the Global War on Mainstream Music and the fight for freedom and expression in the battle against the evils of commercialized, over-processed, under delivered music through separate divisional fronts.
Our first divisional front is the building of a Texas-style Army of influential guitarists that run the gamut of styles, age and experience that will thrill the masses while highlighting the skills and techniques of each unique and amazing guitarist. Think of the Texas Guitar Army as a diverse, musician driven vehicle, featuring an array of name and up and coming talent.
The plan is to schedule a hand-full of initial warm-up dates in three or four Texas cities as well as Las Vegas and Los Angeles in the fall of 2013. The dates with also feature handpicked young guitarists, the Young Guns Army in support, representing the millennial generation of guitar players.
Oh, and we plan to develop the project into a second divisional front in 2014; a guitar lifestyle global festival focusing on artists, artist musical stages in many genres and vendors featuring the latest gear and accessories - a cross between the Warp Tour and NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants.
The Texas Guitar Army plans to deliver the music and lifestyle of the guitar directly to the fans. We plan to plug the fans directly into to the live music experience. Shows will feature the Texas Guitar Army as well as other known guitarists and bands will historic guitar players. Fans will have the opportunity to meet many of the participating musicians, watch equipment product presentations and instructional clinics where they can learn the tricks and techniques of today's top players. That's not all, fans will have the opportunity to view and test drive the latest and greatest musical equipment from the all levels of equipment dealers from all over the world.
Why Indigogo? The Texas Guitar Army is looking to crowd fund our project, not because we do not have individuals interested in backing it, but because when you accept investment funding, you must give up some control over the artistic development of your project. We believe in our vision and we want the artists involved to be able to have fun with this project. We do not want a label or promoter to dictate the direction the music must take.
Who is building the Texas Guitar Army? Why are we doing it?
HeXx Henderson, is an incredible lap steel player who has worked with notable artists such as Roy Buchanan, The Drifters, The Marvalettes, Phil Lewis of LA Guns, and David Allen Coe. HeXx had the idea for the Texas Guitar Army when he wanted a way to tour with his friends, but it seemed unlikely that two or three bands traveling together would be able to book many cohesive gigs. He wanted to create a showcase where guitarists with exceptional talent could play whatever type of music they love. This remains his motivation, only now he envisions it developing on a national level, and perhaps even internationally. Rather than a small group of musicians, the Texas Guitar Army will include an entire range of phenomenal guitarists, from players who may have been overlooked by the public to guitar legends.
Paul Bibeau is an extremely well-known figure in the music industry, having been instrumental in the careers of major artists like Alice Cooper, Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Ted Nugent, Dio, Testament, to name of few. Paul became involved in the Texas Guitar Army because he sees a unique opportunity to fill a void in guitar driven music and the guitar lifestyle community. He sees how passionately devoted we have been to the Texas Guitar Army. Paul’s promotion has already attracted the interest of new sponsors, increased media attention, and best of all drawn some spectacular talents who will be featured in the tour. Paul has the experience, perspective, and magnetism to lead the Guitar Army in its fight against mediocre music.
I, Nicoll Stapleton, am a writer, interviewer, photographer, artist, and the designer of the Texas Guitar Army web site. I have been assisting in many ways, from setting up the social media to coordinating the artists. My greatest interest, besides seeing this spectacular show materialize, is in documenting the incredible project. I want give insight into what influences and motivates these amazing artists. Besides writing interviews and taking photos, I would also like to produce videotaped interviews, and eventually produce a documentary about the exceptional people who shape this incredibly unique and dynamic project. The story behind the Texas Guitar Army is truly phenomenal. I want to tell the world.
Some of the talent involved: Danny B. Harvey, the spectacularly talented Rockabilly guitarist who has played with Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats, Johnny Ramone of the Ramones, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats, Nancy Sinatra, Wanda Jackson, Kathy Valentine of the Gogos, and Lemmy of Motorhead in The Head Cat, and has toured with David Bowie, The Clash, The Pretenders, Hall and Oats and Little Steven Van Sant of the Bruce Springsteen Band. Michael Hund, a multi-award winning guitarist who regularly plays with Rock and Roll idols like Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge and Rod Stewart’s band, Vinnnie Appice of Black Sabbath and Dio, and Derek St. Holmes of Ted Nugent’s band. Kirk Harper on incredible lead vocals and rhythm guitar, whose impressive resume includes co-writing Lynch Mob’s Smoke This with George Lynch of Dokken fame. Kendall Birdsong, the exceptional bass player, and Clark Stone, the awesome drummer from Perfect Stranger, form the rhythm section.
The Young Guns, an unbelievably talented group of young musicians just starting in the music business, will open the shows.
Plus a revolving line up of incredible guitar stars who will be announced in the very near future. We think you will be really impressed.
The one key personality of our group who will be sadly missing from the tour, the late Richard Raines of Perfect Stranger, who inspired HeXx Henderson to start the Texas Guitar Army and the man responsible for bringing many of these fantastic talents together.
You. We feel confident that we will attract a large audience eventually, but we would like you to help us make that happen much sooner. What will this mean to you? We will be able to tour on a greater scope, perform in more cities, enlist new members, and develop new ways of entertaining and interacting with our fans. We will produce great guitar music downloads, music videos, interviews. Maybe broadcast events? Maybe a TGA app? There are so many different things we would love to do to connect with our fans. We love great guitar music of all genres and we are extremely excited to explore the possibilities.
What can we all accomplish together? We are dedicated to providing a stage where experienced guitarist can perform the music they believe in. We have also developed The Young Guns, which will give many talented young artists their first shot at professional music. We believe that the Texas Guitar Army will leave a legacy of great music and inspiration.
How will we use the funds we get through Indigogo? At this juncture, we would use the funds for three major things, promotion, videotaping and recording the shows, and developing the Texas Guitar Army. Once we achieve these goals, we can expand our recording and video efforts to include concert DVDs, live and studio material on both physical and figural formats.
Where will it end? Who knows? Have guitar, will travel! We are planning a Texas Guitar Festival, which would seek to play in North America and Europe initially, followed by a run of dates throughout South East Asia, Central and South America.
When? Soon, very soon. We are hoping you will join us to make it happen even more quickly and on a much greater level.
What are the Risks and Challenges? The risks are few. We have already assembled an incredibly accomplished group of musicians and we are speaking with others to round out the lineup. We have caught the attention of corporate sponsors, at this point they are assisting with promotion on various levels. We believe that as we grow, sponsor interest will also grow to the point where more companies are willing to invest, perhaps in funding or by providing a tour bus or equipment.
What if we fail to reach the target? We will use the funds generated to increase public awareness of the Texas Guitar Army and to record the first shows on tape and video. We will not consider it a failure as we see that Indigogo is a great way of making ourselves known to music lovers and guitar enthusiasts. We believe you will become fans! We will continue the fight to bring great guitar music to you! We will win the fight against pre-packaged, boring, banal music!
What do you get out of it? Incredible guitar music! Excellent perks! Plus our undying gratitude!
