About This Campaign

In 2009, five friends founded The Shelter as a small theatre workshop to support themselves and other artists. In the ensuing years, The Shelter has grown and now houses nine staff members and fourteen resident artists working in several disciplines, including writing, directing, acting, and design. Our Sunday workshop shelters a community of over one hundred members, whose work we have developed into six productions and multiple staged readings over the course of three seasons. We’ve filled over one thousand seats with engaged audience members, and critics have called our work bold, creative, exciting, innovative, engaging, and solidly produced with exceptional production values. In 2011, our production of FAIRY TALE was selected as a Backstage Critic’s Pick.

While our shows have become ever more popular, ticket sales cover only 50% of our producing expenses. To fill the gap, we depend on people like you, who share our belief in the value of producing good theatre and sheltering artists. You’ve supported us in the past, and we’d like to partner with you again. We currently need to raise $10,000 for our fourth season. A donation of $50 pays for a costume, and a gift of $500 pays for one night's rental of a theatre. Your donation, at whatever level, can help us reach this goal.

That $10,000 will enable us to produce three brand new shows in our fourth season, starting in December 2012 with SOARWARD HOLIDAY PARTY: a one-night-only, immersive, ensemble theatre experience built around an office holiday party – and we hope you’ll party with us! We’ll return in early 2013 with GHOST LIGHT, a collection of plays set on a bare stage below a single light. Finally, The Shelter will proudly premiere a piece that’s been over a year in the making at Shelter Sunday workshops: LILY & KOSMO, a comedic space opera for all ages, performed in the style of a 1950s radio drama.

We want you to know how much we appreciate your support. That's why we've come up with some fun donor gifts, including signed original artwork by LILY & KOSMO creator Jonathan Arthur Ashley, free tickets to shows, and even a chance to be in one of our plays! Supplies are limited, so make your donation by December 31, 2012 to secure the gift of your choice.

We hope you'll join us as we continue to expand, shelter artists, serve audiences, and make really awesome theatre!
