The Music Industry Management Association (MIMA)

The Music Industry Management Association is a model production company that provides hands on opportunities in the music industry for Music Industry Management students at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. There are currently 250 hardworking and dedicated members in MIMA. 

MIMA members have the opportunity to participate in several student-produced events throughout the year including:

  • Autumn aLive: a mid-scale arena concert with varying genres
  • Turn Up the Good: a mid-scale arena electronic concert 
  • Independent Showcase: a series of shows featuring independent artists 
  • NARM/NAMM: Two large scale music conferences that provide students with professional development and networking opportunities

Since MIMA began in 1999, funding for all activities was provided by the Finance Division of Student Government through the university after completion of a proposal process. With Autumn aLive - our first show of the year - being one month away, we recently received notification that Student Activities was pulling all funding that had been allocated to us in March of last spring. Without this funding, we will be unable to execute the show. 

Because it is such a massive part of our program, we are doing everything in our power to fundraise over the next month so we can continue to provide students with such a beneficial and unique learning experience. 

What We Need & The Impact It Will Have

$1,500 is our goal amount. This money will help fund Autumn aLive, Turn Up the Good, the Independent Showcase, and other events throughout the year. Because these are entirely student-produced, we are responsible for everything from booking the artist, providing hospitality, running security, setting up equipment, and promoting the show. These events are key experiences for us, and allow our program to collaborate and network with students in various colleges and organizations, as well as with other music industry professionals. We gain a competitive advantage over similar music business programs through the planning and execution of concerts on this scale.
