Top-down survival exploration horror where your road to independence leads through the hell of imprisonment.

The Last Cargo is a top-down exploration survival horror where your road to independence leads through the hell of imprisonment.

This is not another game aimed at scaring you for no purpose. Its main theme is the general problem of indoctrination, especially religious one. We would like to share with you our feelings on how it is to be an atheist in a world full of countless beliefs. We also would like to manifest our disapproval of early enforcement of beliefs on young people. That is why the main character of our game found himself, already as an adult, in a critical spot. Despite having been raised in a religious and orthodox family, his uncompromising and curious nature led him to undertake a difficult task.

This stage of his life manifested to him as a dark and mysterious structure whose foundation is his shaking faith, stretched to the point of absurdity. There is no going back: there is only one way to end this nightmare. You must go through the hardships of every subsequent floor in order to achieve what you are striving for.

The situation of our character is unique. His beliefs, imposed onto him, have limited his movement (in the form of a wheelchair), dulled his senses and magnified all his fears. The only safe haven for him is the elevator. Unfortunately, this symbol of independence
requires fuel. Therefore, you must explore floor after floor looking for fuel, food, light sources and, what is the most important, reflecting on the purpose and meaning of this whole place.

(some time after the game release and if the campaign end successful)

If there existed a structure which would contain all elements of human consciousness, it would unfortunately shape as an eternal fear of the unknown. You never know on which floor you will need to leave the safe haven of the elevator again. And you will never know what you will encounter on your way. Individual elements of this place, enemies and many objects of your surroundings are randomized during each play, so that each subsequent trial to endure this nightmare is unique.

The story of The Last Cargo is the result of the experience of a man exposed to the debilitating power of religious indoctrination. Fighting dogma and your own fears becomes the plot of a survival game. You find yourself in a mysterious place, and with every floor you discover the purpose for which it was built.

In a place like this you must remember basic guidelines to ensure your survival.
Keep quiet and be careful: there are many things that want to hurt you and they are just waiting for you to slip. It is you who decides which path to take and whether further exploration in pursuit of answer is worth the risk (story and sandbox modes). Plan your actions carefully - death is close and a second chance comes at a price (permadeath or classic modes).

The main character is undefined - just like all other components of the game, he is a mere symbol. The character has fallen a victim to religious indoctrination, just like every single one of us, to a greater or lesser extent. He has obvious physical limitations, which enhances the terror of the whole situation, and illustrates the powerlessness of the individual. He is surrounded by the creations of a world which emerged from his own rebellious consciousness and the dogma which has been imposed onto him. He is surrounded by the darkness of the incomprehensible, but he is filled with the great and empowering desire to find his own way.

As difficult as it is for us, we must state that failure on Indiegogo will mean not only the end of The Last Cargo, but also the end of our business as well. We have been postponing this campaign for a long time, but unfortunately our financial situation has now become critical. We also do not want to try and win you over with our misery, thus we are actually bringing something to the table. We really want to finish and give you The Last Cargo.

What are we going to do with the money?

First of all, we want to live - this means food, bills and taxes. This will allow us to focus only on our game, and not be distracted by various odd jobs we have now.
We also need new hardware and software - now we have old computers and the lack of necessary "equipment".
We want to hire the best translators - we are aware of our lack of skill in this regard.

We are Ehnenu, a two man team from Poland. We started making games in 2011 but we have been toying with this idea for much, much longer. Despite numerous hardships we managed to establish a small studio.

We wanted to make our first game, “Enamel”, using only our limited resources. For us, that stage of our activity was mainly the stage of intense learning, polishing our skills and establishing our own style. It happened so that when we were working on Enamel, we had a new and irresistible idea. So we began to work on both projects simultaneously, even though we have never publicly announced it. Finally, we decided that the first game we want to finish is The Last Cargo. This is who we are. We don’t enforce anything – great creations are always the result of passion. We do not show our faces because we are very shy (and one of us is ugly). There is only one thing that matters in our work: the final result, the game itself. As creators, we are mere tools which also happen to leave the marks of their character in the finished work.

As we hale already mentioned, this project will decide our fate. We will give it everything we have got, the rest is up to you. If the campaign is successful, the planned premiere for the game is Q1 or Q2 2014, and this is what we are going to stick to.

Some people just can’t contribute, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help. By spreading the word and sharing the campaign via the Indiegogo tools, on social networks, blogs, forums - basically everywhere - you can help us to make this game. Talk to friends and other gamers about it. Write to us if you have any additional questions, we will gladly answer any of them.

Thank you all for your time!
