What is The B.C. Butcher?
"The B.C. Butcher" is a girl-gang slasher film set in prehistoric times. It is feature length and shot entirely on 16mm color negative film. My name is Kansas Bowling and I am the director. I have loved horror films all my life, and now at age 17, I am directing my own. With a script written by Kenzie Givens and I, a great cast, and a rock 'n' roll soundtrack provided by The Ugly Kids, the first slasher to ever be set in prehistoric times will be unlike any horror film ever made!
The video above is the first scene of the film. It features the tribe of cavewomen sacrificing one of their members, Dina, for betraying them. Later on in the script, a monster finds Dina's dead body and falls in love with her. The monster wants to avenge her death and spends the film picking off the cavewomen responsible for Dina's death one by one. But the fun won't end there! Not only will this film have cavewomen and a prehistoric creature, it will feature amputations, decapitations, buff men in loincloths, psychedelic dream sequences, a live performance by The Ugly Kids, and much, much, much more!!!
But first... we need the funding!
What We Need & What You Get
The amount we are asking for is $10,400. But this is just to cover the bare essentials. Here is how the budget breaks down:
- $5,064 - FILM COSTS! - Even though shooting on 16mm looks beautiful and is extremely worth it, it is very expensive. The price written will cover the costs of buying, processing, and developing 110 minutes of film from Spectra Film and Video (including tax).
- $400 - Audio Equipment - We are planning on a ten day shoot with a boom pole and digital audio recording rented for $40 a day.
- $1,500 - Camera Rentals - 16mm camera, lenses, tripods, etc. rented for $150 a day, 10 day shoot.
- $750 - Food - An unavoidable cost. We're averaging at $75 a day to feed our cast and crew.
- $443 - Costumes and Props - For costumes, I will just do what I did for the first scene and hunt through Goodwill to find anything animal print to create my own costumes, which didn't turn out to be expensive. But later on in the film, we'll need to make prehistoric instruments (guitar made out of a tortoise shell, etc.), fake snakes, lots of bones, a fake head, and all the good stuff you can't find at your local thrift store.
- $200 - Monster Costume - This will cover all of the costs for creating the monster! Not going to reveal too much here, because the monster will be a surprise!
All of this adds up to $8,157. We are shooting for $10,000 to cover any advertising, film festival entries, unexpected costs, etc., and the extra $400 is for indiegogo's cut.
We have an amazing list of perks! For as little as $5, you can be personally thanked on our facebook, tumblr, and twitter pages, and for just $25, you can have your name in the credits of the film and on imdb! You can view our list to the right, which also includes a digital copy of the script, autographs, movie props, premier invites, roles in the film, and even BIG titles such as executive producer and producer!
