Our Story

Leto Solutions, Inc. is a start-up medical device company based in San Antonio, Texas. We had our origins at the University of Texas in San Antonio as a student project, when a team of four Engineering students and four Business students formed to compete in the University’s $100K CITE (Center for Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship) contest. A requirement of the contest is that the team must design a product, build a working prototype, and create a Business Plan for a successful company.

The team did not need to look far for the inspiration for their “product”. One member of the team is a wounded warrior – Gary lost his leg as a result of injuries he sustained while serving in Iraq with the US Army. Gary told the team that, while his prosthetic limb helped him regain his mobility, it brought unexpected problems.

After Gary challenged the team to find an effective way to cool his prosthesis, the engineers went to work and designed a unique system. A prototype was built and worn by Gary for a few months with amazingly positive results. For the first time, Gary was able to wear his prosthesis without experiencing a build-up of heat and sweat.

The team won the CITE contest, and has received considerable recognition since then: Leto Solutions was named a Top Ten Life Science Company in Texas at a competition sponsored by Rice University; featured in the ABC News “Second Tour” series; and featured in numerous articles in print and online.

Leto Solutions, Inc. was formed in September 2013, and is committed to improving the comfort of wearing a prosthesis and the quality of life for all lower limb amputees.
