“The American Jungle” is the working title to a new feature length documentary film providing a rare opportunity to gain a colorful and unique look into the electronic underground world of Jungle / Drum and Bass (DnB) music. Soon-to-be film school graduate, Jeremy Ballard is the Producer of the upcoming film. Known as DJ Onket in the world of DnB, this 10 year DJ and promoter of the genre is using his first musical love as the subject and inspiration of his first major film.
“The American Jungle” film submerses the viewer right into the deep end of the drum and bass lifestyle and scene with the people that support it. This gives the viewer an insight in to the music, culture, and the artists themselves. This film will have the informed factual sensibility of a documentary with the spontaneity and realism of reality television. The film delves into the early years and the development of DnB and explores the future, looking at the direction of the genre and the new genres that either splintered off or have been influenced by DnB. Plus the viewer will see first hand what it is like to be a part of some of the massive events featuring the top talents of DnB to the smaller local scenes and local talent while showcasing the tours of 4 of the genres top DnB acts, Evol Intent, Ewun, Dieselboy, and MC Dino. The film will document one full year of event touring in locations around the United States and Canada. Through which the viewer will get a taste of the tour. The American Jungle crew will be sharing in parts of the tours of pioneering DnB artists Evol Intent, Ewun, Dieselboy, and MC Dino. A film crew will be traveling to over 30 different cities via a custom RV. The crew will attend and document dozens of major events with the artists across the continent exploring the local scene and talent in many of these cities. The film will explore the past, present, and future covering 20 years of DnB from local club nights to the biggest DnB music festivals ever seen in North America. Plus, tour dates from 4 of DnB's most prominent artists, Evol Intent, Ewun, Dieselboy, and MC Dino.
“The American Jungle” film will follow a simple but “tried and tested” formula while offering a slight twist as the approach to the subject of DnB beginning with the colorful history that put DnB, or rather the Jungle of the early 1990's, into motion as a unique, but legitimate electronic music genre.
As a documentary, the film will delve into the factual elements of DnB with respect to its history and future, the artists both local and national, and the people that make up the scene. This will be much like the classic “rockumentary”. While touring the country in a custom RV, the film will take the viewer directly into the events with the people in social and dancing type settings while the artists perform also giving the film an element of “reality television”.
The film will be shot with Canon Digital SLR 5D Mark II camera's. These cameras will give the film superior HD quality and the low profile needed to capture the essence of these events without interrupting the "reality" feel. Top of the line equipment will be utilized to capture the audio in order to get the full scope of the interview situations. This will allow the viewer to feel the passion and emotion coming out of our subjects. The American Jungle will be utilizing crane/jibs & steadicam technology to provide the most inspiring compositions to help carry the story and give the viewer a unique perspective on the performances and events.
A documentary film that educates, entertains, and stimulates the senses while creating a connection between the Pop culture and the electronic dance music community through Jungle / Drum and Bass.
Quoting a written statement from Producer / Creator, Jeremy Ballard:
“I want to make this film because I want to show the World drum and bass in America and the influence that it has made in my life and others. I would like to show American culture and how it has made its mark in drum and bass / jungle. My motivation is not only just to make my first film, but also to learn about how other drum and bass / jungle scenes in North America came to be. What made these scenes and who were the major players to help spread the scene across the country. The film industry needs this film because it will be original, informational, and exciting. It will be acknowledged beyond just another "rockumentary" and show drum and bass as a unique culture that is found in every city.”
