“The bigger the better; in everything.”
― Freddie Mercury
Blind Tiger Society presents The Aftermath Affair, an evening of original and scintillating dance, music, food, drink and celebration to take place at ODC Theater February 28th-March 2nd.
Blind Tiger Society, an Oakland based dance company in our second year, was created by Bianca Cabrera to bring highly physical, engaging and audience centric dance to the Bay Area. Blind Tiger Society focuses on the promise of pleasure, art, spectacle, delight and kick-ass dancing to everything we do. All of our work over the past few years, from performances at theater spaces like Counterpulse and The Garage, to converting a gorgeous old Victorian house in West Oakland into a Speakeasy style performance party has culminated in The Aftermath Affair.
So what is The Aftermath Affair?
The Aftermath Affair will be more than just a show to be watched, it will be an evening for all to participate it. The night will have the easy, social, celebratory atmosphere of a party while being filled with powerful and commanding dance for you to enjoy. Evocative sets, detailed costuming, transformative make-up and a non-traditional use of the theater space will create compelling visuals while exciting exchanges between the performers and each individual audience member will craft a night of connection and curiosity.
And you can’t have breathtaking dance without rock star dancers and collaborators!
This is where you come in!
Blind Tiger Society was awarded the Fleishhacker Opportunity Fund, a 50 % rental stipend for the impressive ODC Theater. This award has made it possible for us to embark upon creating such a large scale event. However, ticket sales will still need to be allocated towards obligatory aspects of the production, such as theater rental, rehearsal space, tactile materials, administration costs and labor, receptions, marketing and publicity, and technical staff.
So where does my money go? (you may be thinking) Well…
Many skillful collaborators are donating large amounts of their professional time to The Aftermath Affair. By the end of the project, dancers Tanya Chianese, Iren Kamyshev, Mallory Markham, Jennifer Meek and Rebecca Morris will have rehearsed 250+ hours, Ben Juodvalkis will have written, arranged and recorded an original musical score and set/lighting designer Roel Q Seeber will have crafted a stunning atmosphere for The Aftermath Affair.
On top of our original collaborators we are also lucky enough to be joined by a fabulous new cast of dancers! We have been so inspired by the work these women did in our recent workshop that we decided to invite them to be part of show. These dancers include: Kristin Damrow, Krystal Harfert, Maggie Hurd, Odessa Perez, Erica Pinigis, Emma Salmon, Nell Suttles, Jordan Stout, Emily Thompson, Ayana Yonesaka and Ali Weeks.
We are deeply committed to compensating these artists for their hard work and dedication but we can't do it without you!
To be clear, your generous donations will be going to artists fees.
