"Addlife is an activist community website that creates action to revolutionize health for good. We need your support to launch globally. Please donate and help us make it happen."
Hi, we are four friends, Eddie, Edna, Conor and Julie, who have worked together for many years. Eddie is a film maker, Edna has been advising the health industry, Conor is a communications specialist and Julie has been working with leading NGOs. We each share the belief that every single person on earth has the basic human right to health. Our aim is to use the power of of the web to revolutionize health; to empower everyone with internet access to become an activist and influence the many factors that affect our health, from changing government policy right through to health education and disease awareness. You can view some campaign examples on www.theaddlifeproject.org
We started the Addlife Project in January 2013. Addlife is a health campaigning website which will support and drive campaigns for and by its members. Whether you want to stop advertising of unhealthy foods to children or are demanding access to life saving medicines, Addlife will be a platform for anyone who wants to stand up and gather support in numbers to call for change in health, for all of us. But numbers do not just happen by themselves. A movement needs a cause, an opportunity and a place to happen. We hope Addlife will become such a catalyst for improving health for everyone, everywhere.
What is Addlife?
Addlife builds on an emerging trend for web-based campaign platforms that address social/gender/political issues. You may have heard of organizations such as Avaaz or Change.org who have been doing great work. But, none of the existing organisations place enough emphasis on the importance of health as a core human right. Addlife intends to change this.
The Addlife Project is a new way for all of us to finally play an active and direct role in improving our well-being. By unifying our voices, and using the powerful technology of the Internet, we can contribute to changes in local, national and global health policies, balance inequalities in access to good healthcare and influence outdated practices.
Please support us
We need your help to launch Addlife and to:
· Develop further our technology and infrastructure
· Expand our networks globally
· Hire the staff we will need to support up to 30 campaigns on burning issues in our first year
· Build the membership base to two million by the end of our third year
The Addlife Project will be launched in three phases:
Phase one is about preparing all the essential elements to continue. For example, we will be completing and testing the website, researching information for marketing and communications plans and inviting many around the world to become members of what we call the Addvocates. These are up to one thousand volunteers who will work alongside us to pinpoint the issues, identify potential campaigns and provide local support in the countries in which they live.
In phase two we will be developing a wide range of campaigning materials and implementing the first of many technology upgrades in preparation for the formal launch.
In phase three we will be planning an extensive social media programme and a formal media launch event in London for our supporters and stakeholders.
The money bit
To date, we have invested over $400,000 US in the The Addlife Project. We also have contributions from others of $50,000 US. To help us with the immense task of launching globally we need to raise an additional $175,000 US.
In recognition of your generosity and support we have a variety of fun perks to offer:
|$15 - Name and picture on the Addlife wall of fame (gold, platinum and diamond)||$35 – An Addlifer Wristband|
|$55 – An Addlifer T-shirt||$100 - An Addlifer sports water bottle|
|$175 - Thank you call from the team||$250 - Personalized Addlifer certificate|
|$500 - Personalized thank you video||$2000 - Lunch with the team|
|$5000 – VIP invite to launch event|
Reaching our goal
We hope, of course, that you will be able to help us to reach the level of funding we need. However, if we don’t reach our goal, we will still use whatever we raise from your generous donations to support the launch plan. We will not give up.
We want to improve people’s lives and prevent, as far as possible, pre-mature deaths. Poor quality of life and many preventable deaths affect untold millions globally. As such, the concerns about health have been important agenda items for national and international governments and global institutions. There is global consensus that health is a primary precursor to political and economic development. There is now unprecedented demand for better health, with attendant pressure on governments to deliver improved responses to public health and wellbeing needs.
In spite of major investments in health programs such as the Clinton Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation and USAID, the outcomes are still limited. Projections from the World Health Organization predict unbridled growth in chronic diseases. And new sources of infections are also appearing. Many ideas for addressing some of the underlying social determinants have been discussed; some good intentions have been declared on the world stage by many major players. The outcomes, however, often fall short of the intended targets.
The addlife process
Why are we different?
We believe that through The Addlife Project we can add two missing elements.
· Grassroots perspectives in the debates between policy makers and professionals.
· Clear, powerful and engaging communications about the myriad practical solutions that are possible.
The Addlife Project charts a course of action that gives a voice to those who want it, and to those who know how to provide solutions. And you can become part of this change for good.
We hope that you can donate and support our launch efforts and campaigns to follow. However, we understand that you may not be in a position to do this. That’s ok. You can help us in other ways:
· Register as a member at www.theaddlifeproject.org/register
· Become involved in the Addlife Project as an Addvocate and/or propose a campaign.
· Spread the word, share our vision and plan with your friends on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter etc.
· Track what is happening in your country and maybe let us know if there is an issue that you believe might benefit from being supported by The Addlife Project.
· And don’t forget to use Indiegogo “share” tools!
