During the past five years we have taken notice of 3 key areas (1) Plastic Bag Bans, (2) Smartphone Statistics, and (3) USA SMS/Text Message Statistics to produce a new product named “THE TEXT TO SAVE REUSABLE BAG ADVERTISEMENT”.
Key area #1 We deem not only number one but the most important factor in the development of our product. Recently, a sweeping ban on plastic grocery bags went into effect July 1 for unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. An ordinance amending the County’s Title 12 - Environmental Protection Code, relating to regulating the use of plastic carryout bags and recyclable paper carryout bags and promoting the use of reusable bags within the County’s unincorporated areas. This is a very bold move for the County of Los Angeles but it is not the first large County/City to implement such a ban on the use of plastic carryout bags. Society's plastic bag usage is estimated at well over 500 billion plastic bags annually, or almost 1 million per minute. The annual cost of plastic carryout bags to US retailers alone is estimated at $4 billion. Approximately 500 nautical miles off the California coast sits a growing "plastic island," a gargantuan patch of floating plastic trash held together by currents stretching across the northern Pacific almost as far as Japan. This "plastic island" is made up of about 7 billion pounds of plastic garbage, and measures about twice the size of Texas. With such mind blowing statistics and the fact that in a landfill, plastic bags take up to 1,000 years to degrade it’s no wonder why such bans can be seen as necessary. However, on the other side of the bag bans are the customer and the retailer. In the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County alone the ban will affect about 1.1 million people; 67 large supermarkets/pharmacies and about 1,000 smaller stores. Because by law the store must (A) charge the customer a 10 cents ($.10) surcharge for each paper recyclable paper carryout bag provided or (B) stores must provide reusable bags to customers, either for sale or at no charge. Of Course in such horrible economic times this gives great concern to all the Businesses especially the small, mom-and-pop shops would be at a disadvantage financially, in part because they wouldn’t have access to volume discounts for paper and reusable bags. The ban simply destroys one of the most common free items provided to customers by retailers.

Key area #2 of our products development is based solely on Smartphone Statistics and its Market Share growth. New data out from Nielson and Forrester Research indicate that Smartphone owners will surpass those with feature phones by the end of next year, indicating an interesting shift in what the future mobile user will be doing with their device. Today, Smartphones’ make up 54% of all mobile phone sales in the USA that’s 95 million Smartphones, making it the highest-selling consumer electronic device in the USA. What’s interesting is that while Smartphones were once only the “playground of businesspeople on the go, “32% of the population now have a Smartphone, more than 240 million U.S. consumers — or almost 78% of the population — have a mobile phone subscription, according to a new study from Forrester Research entitled “Profiling U.S. Online Mobile Consumers.” The reason Smartphone data was Key to our products development is because we believe the goal of the respective studies were to open the eyes of mobile marketers to the increased possibilities of Smartphones and the future of mobile media.
Key area #3 of our products development is based on communication and data exchange using SMS/Text Message services.
