Our Story

Starting Arts is a Santa Clara based non-profit arts organization. Our mission is to promote and preserve arts education for all students. We are partnering with the San Francisco film company, Dawnrunner Productions, to create a one-of-a-kind film camp for students in grades 6-12. The camp's project for 2012 is to create a feature film, Terra.

We are seeking funding for this upcoming feature length film project, Terra. This unique film camp strives to teach students in grades 6-12 how to look at and create quality films. Students get hands-on experience in front and behind the camera in a safe and professional environment. This is unlike any other film program because students work with industry professionals using state of the art equipment. Our current project, Terra, is a feature length fantasy adventure film that follows young Asher and his misfit allies through a world slowly dying due to the Blight. Their adventure is filled with magic, swordsmen and an evil Empress. Join us on this epic journey by helping to fund this feature film as well as future projects.

Why We Need You

Starting Arts seeks to empower children creatively. Funding for this program will allow children involved that have worked on the pre-production aspects of this film to continue working on this project with professional equipment and necessary resources including constructed studio sets, costumes, props, special effects make-up, professional camera and lens equipment, location sets, etc. We want every student involved to be able to see a final product and say, "I designed that shot," "that's me on screen," or, "I gave the actor that motivation," "I designed that character!" In addition, every child will be able to walk away with a professional product and work experience unlike anything typically available to this age group.

Where It Goes & What You Get

All money generated by this campaign goes into the creation and completion of this project. We are seeking additional funding from foundations, but we also want to connect with our audience: you! That is why we have split our efforts. Your contribution will go directly into the continuation of this program including a three week camp being held this summer that explores the backstory of our main villain, Empress Amara. This means better sets, improved equipment—including a motion capture system—and a higher quality of professional film experience for the kids in our camp.

We have listed out a number of perks for potential funders to take advantage of. Tax deductions are also available! Please email ffi@startingarts.com with your request.
