What do you mean by "train"?
When I say train I'm refering to anything from rolling on the mats in jiu jitsu to jogging and lifting weights. Pretty much just being physically active. It's what's always defined me, always been my outlet, always been what I was passionate about.
The surgery, the symptoms, the cost and why not Canada, eh?
The procedure I’m fundraising for is the endoscopic surgical removal of a pineal cyst. This operation has the power to give me my life back. For the last 5 and a half years I’ve had to stop all physical activity due to debilitating, headaches, dizziness, balance and coordination problems. As an athlete words alone can’t explain how devastating this has been. Doctor’s in Canada don’t have the ability to do the surgery the minimally invasive way. That said, although I’d do it in a heartbeat, they won’t perform the more risky open procedure. Initiallly the surgery was going to take place in LA, but now there's a more afordable (100,000) option that I'm looking into in Australia under Dr. Charles Teo.
How bad do you want it? (The motivation behind “Tattoo’s To Train”)
If you have a dream you have to battle for it. I've always believed in that and I’ve always said I’d do anything to make this surgery happen. Anything for a shot at training again, for a shot at competing again. Saying it’s just words though. This idea is that avenue to prove it. If you guys are willing to commit to me I’m more then willing to commit to you by getting your initials and depending on the donation your name tattooed on me. For me It’d be an honour to carry everyone who helped me through this time into every battle, every athletic endeavor I undertake when this is all said and done.
How’s all this going to work?
The first session is going to happen January 19th, Jory Helmes of Bully Boy Tattoo Inc in Duncan B.C. is going to be doing it. I'll keep going in for every 50 people after that. Thought to start things off on one side of my chest/upper arm then take it from there. If you guys add me on facebook I’ll tag everyone in each segment as it happens.
Before I dive into the perks I want to just let everyone know that as cliche as it is, big or small everything is appreciated. Whether its a step or a leap, everything is forward movement. Everything and everyone is part of making a miracle happen. That’s a special thing.
From 1-19 dollars you get this guys gratitude, positive energy and a message. Not that a message is a perk, I think anytime you donate to someone no matter how big or small you should get thanked. For every 10 people who donate 20 dollars I’ll do a random one person draw for the initials tattoo. If you’re willing to donate 50 dollars the initials are a guarantee. From there if you’re fortunate enough and willing, or if a family wants to rally together and donate 500 dollars I'll get your last name done. If you donate 1000 dollars the name’s a done deal, you’ve done a truly remarkable thing and at the very least that’s what I can do to show the appreciation.
Know your fighter
Through this situation I’ve used a certain analogy over and over again. I’m passionate about the combat sports so to me it makes sense to treat this as another competition, another fight in a way. Everyone who helps is in my corner, a truly essential aspect of this. Without you I’d crumble. However before cornering, before training someone, you want to know who they are and what they’re all about. Know they deserve your expertise, know they’ll battle hard and not fold up when adversity sets in, know their heart. Please check out my site www.submitacyst.com to learn more about me. It has far more information on the situation. Feel free to add me on facebook and fire me a message. You can also email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll do whatever it takes to earn your trust and support in this.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this.
